FIRST SNOW. The first snow of the season famously mucks up traffic in Washington DC; this year is not only no exception, it's the worst I've seen in 15 years. All because the snow began falling just before the start of the morning traffic rush. My wife left the house at 8:20 for a 9 am appointment; as of 8:45 she was still in the 'first mile' on the Parkway outside our cul-de-sac.

Here's what it looks like. Front yard first, then the side:



It's about 2" deep right now, and the updated forecast is now for 2-4 inches.

The cats are pissed. The three who routinely go out immediately after breakfast just sniffed the snow at the back door and headed to the front which has a covered porch. Out, and then 30 minutes later when I opened the door a bullet couldn't have gone faster than the three coming in. Shadow's now in the basement, looking wistfully out his cat door; Rusty's in his 'condo' at the window wondering what all that white stuff is; and the girls have given up and gone back to bed.
