AUTUMN LEAVES INSTALLMENT VII

The first picture today is the deck view, just not taken from the deck but from the terrace below it. The only real difference from last week is the dearth of leaves. The deciduous trees are mostly leaf-free now; only the evergreens are left unscathed. The pond is now clearly visible from the house.

Nothing has really changed around the fire pit. We've seen some color changes in the last week through the neighborhood, but just not here.

With most of the leaves gone, the house is now pretty clearly visible through the 'forest'. The remaining trees are mostly evergreen, and the ground cover, mostly weeds, has died off.

Here's the usual pond view, taken from above the dock. I used the telephoto lens today, so the dock itself isn't in view.

Rather than the usual 'wayback' view from across the pond, this picture is taken from the east side of the pond, looking back toward the hill at the top of which is the road. It's one of the few places in the neighborhood where there is actual color other than shed, dead, and green.

For comparison, last week's pictures are here.

I THINK MICHAEL RAMIREZ got the Democrats' "civility" trope right.
HOW THE MOB WAS MADE: an introduction to toxic infatuation.
At the end of the day ... it is worth looking behind Hillary Clinton’s little emission about civility. What she meant, of course, was that civility was only possible when Democrats are in power. Only then can the noblesse oblige. The tort that makes civility impossible, in other words, is that Donald Trump won and she didn’t.
Read it all.

WHITE SUPREMACY IDENTITY POLITICS:
The current lawsuit challenging Harvard University’s use of racial preferences in admissions is about “white supremacy,” according to the school’s supporters. So, too, was the defense of U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh against the charge of sexual assault, according to Kavanaugh’s critics. Never mind that the plaintiffs in the Harvard lawsuit are Asian-American students who were denied admission to the school despite academic qualifications superior to those of whites, and that Kavanaugh’s accuser was white herself. The roiling mass of resentments and one-upmanship that is identity politics is becoming ever more irrational in the Trump era.
Now go read it all.

ALEXANDRIA OCCASIONAL-CORTEX OCASIO-CORTEZ attempts to write about human rights. And fails spectacularly.
FINGER FOOD: The Left's 'civility' initiative.
As most people probably know by now, one James Thomas, Assistant Professor of Sociology at Ole Miss, advised: “Don’t just interrupt a Senator’s meal, y’all. Put your whole damn fingers in their salads. Take their apps and distribute them to the other diners. Bring boxes and take their food home with you on the way out. They don’t deserve your civility.”
I have a better idea: fire all the social justice warriors in academia and redistribute their salaries to the homeless. They deserve more civility than do progressive SJWs.
FROM MY EMAIL:
Recently, Henry Kissinger did an interview and said very amazing things regarding President Trump. He starts with: "Donald Trump is a phenomenon that foreign countries haven't seen before."

The former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger gives us a new understanding of President Donald Trump's foreign policy and predicts its success: "Liberals and all those who favor (Hillary) Clinton will never admit it. They will never admit that he is the one true leader. The man is doing changes like never before and does all of it for the sake of this nation's people. After eight years of tyranny, we finally see a difference."

Kissinger knows it and he continues with: "Every country now has to consider two things: One, their perception that the previous president, or the outgoing president, basically withdrew America from international politics, so that they had to make their own assessments of their necessities. And secondly, that there is a new president who's asking a lot of unfamiliar questions. And because of the combination of the partial vacuum and the new questions, one could imagine that something remarkable and new emerges out of it."

Then Kissinger puts it bluntly: "Trump puts America and its people first. This is why people love him and this is why he will remain in charge for so long. There is not a single thing wrong with him and people need to open their eyes." When he boasts that he has a "bigger red button" than Kim Jung Un does, he so transcends the mealy-mouthed rhetoric of the past, thereby forcing a new recognition of American power.

Kissinger once wrote: "The weak grow strong by effrontery – The strong grow weak through inhibition!" No sentence better captures the U.S. - North Korea relationship.

Trump is discarding the inhibitions and calling the bluff on North Korea's effrontery: His point is that the contrast of American retreat under Obama and its new assertion of power under Trump creates a new dynamic that every one of our allies and of our enemies must consider. Our allies grew complaisant with Obama's passivity and now are fearful due to Trump's activism. And they must balance the two in developing their policies: They realize that the old assumptions, catalyzed by Bush 43's preoccupation with Iraq and Obama's refusal to lead are obsolete. So, Trump is forcing a new calculus with a new power behind American interests. Those (here and abroad) who rode the old apple cart, worry about its being toppled. But, as Kissinger so boldly stated: "Trump is the one true leader in world affairs and he is forcing policy changes that put America first"

This is the most accurate statement of what the American Citizens who live outside of the swamp want and expect from their government.

I like the list of 13 things that I, as a senior American citizen, want. Trump is at least talking about issues that most Americans are concerned about. My mantra about Trump is this: Truthfully, we are in agreement with most of what he says. We are getting older and our tickers aren't what they used to be, but what matters is that he covers most of the 13 things we as seniors want, at least I do for sure

1. Hillary: held accountable for her previous wrongs!

2. Put "GOD" back in America!

3. Borders: Closed or tightly guarded!

4. Congress: On the same retirement & healthcare plans as everybody else.

5. Congress: Obey its own laws NOW!

6. Language: English only!

7. Culture: Constitution and the Bill of Rights!

8. Drug-Free: Mandatory Drug Screening before & during Welfare!

9. Freebies: NONE to Non-Citizens!

10. Budget: Balance the damn thing!

11. Foreign Countries: Stop giving them our money! Charge them for our help! We need it here.

12. Term limits for Congress

And most of all.

13. "Respect our military and our flag!" And our law enforcement.
Since it came to me via an email chain, I cannot vouch for it as accurately reflecting Henry Kissinger's thoughts, but I can say it accurately reflects mine. I would only add to the initial statement ["Donald Trump is a phenomenon that foreign countries haven't seen before"] the thought that he is properly skeptical of the credentialed experts who neither understand the American people nor are courageous enough to stand up to the bullies of the world.

A DOSE OF THEIR OWN MEDICINE: Crowd drowns out anti-Trump Dems Adam Schiff, Brad Sherman at California debates.

Will they learn from it? Doubtful.
A SOLUTION TO GUN CONTROL: Think about this for a moment:
In 1865, a Democrat shot and killed Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States.

In 1881, a left wing radical Democrat shot James Garfield, President of the United States - who later died from the wound.

In 1975, a left wing radical Democrat fired shots at Gerald Ford, President of the United States .

In 1983, a registered Democrat shot and wounded Ronald Reagan, President of the United States .

In 1984, James Hubert, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 22 people in a McDonald's restaurant.

In 1986, Patrick Sherrill, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 15 people in an Oklahoma post office.

In 1990, James Pough, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 10 people at a GMAC office.

In 1991, George Hennard, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 23 people in a Luby's cafeteria in Killeen, TX .

In 1995, James Daniel Simpson, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 5 coworkers in a Texas laboratory.

In 1999, Larry Asbrook, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 8 people at a church service.

In 2001, a left wing radical Democrat fired shots at the White House in a failed attempt to kill George W. Bush, President of the US

In 2003, Douglas Williams, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 7 people at a Lockheed Martin plant.

In 2007, a registered Democrat named Seung-Hui Cho, shot and killed 32 people in Virginia Tech.

In 2010, a mentally ill registered Democrat named Jared Lee Loughner, shot Rep. Gabrielle Gifford and killed 6 others.

In 2011, a registered Democrat named James Holmes, went into a movie theater and shot and killed 12 people.

In 2012, Andrew Engeldinger, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 7 people in Minneapolis .

In 2013, a registered Democrat named Adam Lanza, shot and killed 26 people in a school in Newtown, CT.

In Sept 2013, an angry Democrat shot 12 at a Navy shipyard.

As recently as 2016, an angry Democrat attacked and shot up a Republican Congressional baseball practice in D.C., wounding US Congressman Steve Scalise.
Clearly, there is a problem with Democrats and guns. Not one NRA member, Tea Party member, or Republican conservative was involved in any of these shootings and murders.

It should be illegal for Democrats to own guns. We don't need gun control, we need Democrat control. Guns don't kill people, Democrats do!

Remember... your vote counts!

There is no truth, only competing agendas.

All Western (and especially American) claims to moral superiority over Communism/Fascism/Islam are vitiated by the West’s history of racism and colonialism.

There are no objective standards by which we may judge one culture to be better than another. Anyone who claims that there are such standards is an evil oppressor.

The prosperity of the West is built on ruthless exploitation of the Third World; therefore Westerners actually deserve to be impoverished and miserable.

Crime is the fault of society, not the individual criminal. Poor criminals are entitled to what they take. Submitting to criminal predation is more virtuous than resisting it.

The poor are victims. Criminals are victims. And only victims are virtuous. Therefore only the poor and criminals are virtuous. (Rich people can borrow some virtue by identifying with poor people and criminals.)

For a virtuous person, violence and war are never justified. It is always better to be a victim than to fight, or even to defend oneself. But ‘oppressed’ people are allowed to use violence anyway; they are merely reflecting the evil of their oppressors.

When confronted with terror, the only moral course for a Westerner is to apologize for past sins, understand the terrorist’s point of view, and make concessions.

McSally was the first American woman ever to fly combat missions. She retired from the Air Force at the rank of Colonel. McSally trailblazed even more when she refused to wear the abaya during her time in Saudi Arabia. She would not comply with regulations that sent a message that women were subservient to men, and successfully won her lawsuit against the Department of Defense. McSally has faced down actual oppression, and Sinema’s contribution to history is pretending to be oppressed.

Magical thinking is a Democrat specialty. It's also easy in the fantasy world in which they live....
AUTUMN LEAVES, INSTALLMENT VI: Today was a mostly rainy day, and the photos show it. Let's begin with the usual view from the deck:

The haze and high humidity from the earlier rains make this one a little less appealing that last week's photo, but the striking part is that the leaves are far fewer this week. Autumn struck with a vengeance mid-week.

Again, the chief difference is far fewer leaves than last week. It seemed like leaves were falling off green and hitting the ground brown.

The house view from down the pond path is the only one that doesn't seem dramatically different from last week, yet the house is clearly becoming more visible.

The tree line above the pond is clearly thinner, and the color changes are evident. Our neighbor's house is almost coming visible. By next week I expect it will, at least in part.

Here's the 'normal view' of the pond. Note the stair is clearly visible running up the hill (the cats use the stair rail as their highway to and from the pond) and the house roof is beginning to show behind the trees.

Last week's pictures are here.
AMERICA'S GHOST LEGIONS: idle men.
[T]his is a serious moral issue.... It is bizarre that the hardest-working country in the world should harbor a huge pool of able men whose lives are slowly being destroyed through idleness.
Here's the nut graf:
The death of work has ushered in additional costs at the personal and social levels that may be difficult to quantify but are easy to describe. These include the corrosive effects of prolonged idleness on personality and behavior, the loss of self-esteem and the respect of others that may attend a man’s voluntary loss of economic independence, and the loss of meaning and fulfillment that work demonstrably brings to so many (though admittedly not all) people. Thus, the great male flight from work may well have increased our nation’s burden of misery in an incalculable but nonetheless immediate manner. Should this come as a surprise? Hardly. The surprise would be if a social emasculation on this scale had increased the happiness of those concerned.
And that, my friends, is the Democrats' plan: government cheese.

It's not too late: VOTE!

MORE ON Elizabeth Warren's DNA 'vindication'. It looks to me like the 'one drop rule' Democrats formerly used to exclude blacks is now used by Democrats to include Native Americans.

That said, does President Trump owe money to Warren’s favorite charity? I agree with Ben Shapiro: donate 1/1024th of $1 million — a little less than $1,000 — and call it a day.

A BIT LATE, PERHAPS, but here is the executive summary of the FBI's supplemental investigation into the Kavanaugh allegations.

What I found interesting were the comments, this one referencing the accuser, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, in particular:
No one said to her: you signed a letter attacking President Trump’s border policies and were able to get the anti-Trump ACLU to publish it; you contacted an anti-Trump paper, the Washington Post, to make your charges; you turned first to Democrats who are sworn to “resist” – actually sabotage –the Trump presidency and his judicial nominees; and you accepted attorneys recommended by Democrats, who are activist Democrat, anti-Trump lawyers. Can we conclude, therefore, that there might be a political motive behind your decision to bring up these character-ruining accusations about a rough-housing you allegedly received 37 years ago when you and Kavanaugh were too young to even vote?

I've always believed she was no victim and was working with the Democrats to stop Kavanaugh from being the fifth conservative judge seated on the Supreme Court. And they all didn't care if they destroyed Kavanaugh's reputation in the process.

It was all about power and control for the Democrats.
I agree, and it would be very interesting for some enterprising journalist to dig much more deeply into her background.

But they won't; they're Democrat operatives as well....

And guess who spent the most time in Viet Nam?
DEPARTACUS: The Washington Post is a left-leaning newspaper. Really? when did you figure that out?

I found this part somewhat amusing:
When do you think the last time was when any measurable number of voters had their minds changed by a newspaper endorsement? I’m guessing that ended pretty much with the advent of the internet.
I don't think so. Starting when I moved to the D.C. metro area, I've read the Washington Post's political endorsements - and voted the exact opposite.

AUTUMN LEAVES, INSTALLMENT V: It finally feels like fall in the north Georgia mountains, and it's finally beginning to look like it too. Here's the view from the deck:

Not a whole lot of difference from last week. The picture is brigher because the early morning fog is not around during late afternoon. Here's the fire pit:

Again, not a whole lot of obvious change, although you can see more brown in the background - and much more yard debris. Now, looking at the house from down the pond path:

The house itself (left center) is getting a bit more visible. Because the picture is darker, the browns are not a visible as they really are. The house will become more visible when (if) the leaves drop.

The pond is beginning to show real change, finally. I'd like to see last year's colors, but it seems to be green-then-drop this year.

This week I used the telephoto lens; you can now begin to see the stair rail leading up to the house. As with the pond view, the leaves seem to have adopted a green-then-drop philosophy.

And this week, an extra:

This is similar to the pond view above, but because I'm in the shade with the sun more-or-less behind my back the colors are much better.

Last week's pictures are here.

AUTUMN LEAVES, INSTALLMENT IV: Finally, a tiny bit of color, though the most obvious sign of fall is fewer leaves. Here's the usual pond view from the deck:

Finally a touch of reddish, but the bigger difference is fewer leaves on the trees.

Again, not much color change, just fewer leaves. Note that the rock walkway has been finished.

The picture was taken a little higher up on the pond path than last week. The only difference is a tiny hint of color in some of the leaves.

Taken closer to the pond than last week, it's hard to tell any significant color change.

Likewise from the other side of the pond, though the sun angle makes it difficult to tell.

Here are last week's pictures for comparison.

CHELSEA MANNING – still delusional after all these years.

So, tell us what you really think....
LET US NOW praise Democrat party incompetence:
Can we send another bouquet of flowers to Harry Reid for starting the process of ending the filibuster for judicial nominees? Democrats did that for the purpose of packing the DC Circuit Court of Appeals (Kavanaugh’s current post) because they knew that a lot of Obama’s executive actions were vulnerable to challenge in that venue. Then, Democrats decided that they had to filibuster—for the first time ever for the Supreme Court—Neil Gorsuch’s nomination, even though he was replacing Scalia and wouldn’t have affected the ideological distribution of the Court at all. There were apparently some cooler heads among Democrats who thought they should not have forced the GOP to nuke the filibuster and kept it in reserve for the next nomination, which turned out to be . . . now. But they couldn’t help themselves, because Resistance!
Enjoy the rest.
QUESTION ASKED AND ANSWERED: Why the Brett Kavanaugh smear?

We should just steamroller over the Democrats and salt the earth underneath. Judging from Sen. Grassley's comments today, I'm thinking that's gonna happen.
HEH: What Democrat overreach looks like.
