RANDOM THOUGHT: Government-funded work is the last resort of the worthless.
Yeah, I know it's an overstatement, but after watching Canada's Justin Trudeau, America's Joe Biden, various Governors (Newsom, Pritzker, Cuomo/Hochul, Walz, Brown, Whitmer, Inslee), big city mayors (Garcetti, Lightfoot, Adams/DeBlasio) and other local apparatchiks (think woke school boards) it's hard to believe that any of the above could possibly hold a real job for any length of time.
In my over 50 years of employment I've seen more than a few worthless employees quietly moved upstairs to positions of more visibility and less actual authority. I think that's been largely true in politics as well; elect the useless mayor, where he may have some actual authority, to a, say, legislative spot where individual authority is much diminished.
Unfortunately, there's only a limited number of such spots available, and not enough movement of the current incompetents. Instapundit favors enlarging the House of Representatives; based on the increasing need to house 'woke' incompetents I'm inclined to agree (though perhaps I'd prefer state and local legislative bodies).

The Biden Administration is desperate for a war in Ukraine to distract Americans from its almost(?) criminal ineptitude. I seem to remember the Administration almost gleefully announcing that Putin would invade at 3 am on the 16th of February ... (check my calendar) ... over three days ago.
I seriously doubt Russia will invade Ukraine -- not in the near term, at least -- Putin's having too much fun making the Biden Administration look like the jackasses they are on the world stage.
I'll even offer a bit of (totally uninformed) speculation on my part: Russia and Ukraine will settle without U.S. 'help'. Russia will get a bit of separatist Ukraine; Ukraine will agree to never try to join NATO; and the Russia/Ukraine border will becoma a free trade zone similar to that of the European Union.
