OBAMA DESIGNATES a new drug corridor through central New Mexico.
President Obama made the announcement ... setting aside 498,815 acres of land as the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument. Unlike national parks which must be approved by Congress, the president has the power to designate national monuments.
I thought I recognized the Rabbit Ears in the picture. As students at New Mexico State University, we spent many enjoyable days driving and hiking through the Organ Mountains. With its designation as a national monument though, I'd be very hesitant to go there again.
