BOOMERS (1946-1964): A generation of Scrooge McDucks?

As a pre-Boomer (a year early) my parents lived through the Depression and the economic restrictions of WWII and I spent the formative years of my life hiding under my desk at school during nuclear war drills to survive (?) mutual assured destruction (MAD).

Do you think that may -- just may -- have something to do with our 'Scrooge -ish' behavior?
