[VIP] BUZZ'S BEDTIME STORIES: God and Midway island.

Back in the mid-60's, enroute to our tracking station in the Marshall Islands, our aircraft landed at Midway to refuel. As we descended, the pilot announced that passengers could see Midway out the window. My reaction? "We're going to land on that postage stamp?" A few minutes later, flying (very) low over the ocean, I saw land and almost simultaneously heard the 'thump' of the landing gear on the runway.

Having to island hop a few times during that tour, that 'see land, hear thump' became somewhat easier to bear.
