FOX BUSINESS: Drivers sick of new cars' overbearing 'nanny' technology.
Agreed. I've got a car whose navigation software demands that I not look at it because it 'takes my eyes off the road' and then demands I take my eyes off the road to find and press the OK button. The screen comes up randomly - usually when I'm driving in heavy urban traffic or on a winding road. According to the dealer, it's hard-wired into the software and cannot be turned off.
Also: there was a time when one could change the radio station by reaching out and twisting a knob or two. Now it's almost impossible without using the touch screen (and it's why I rarely, if ever, listen to the radio in the car).
