COMMUTING BY BICYCLE is not the wave of our urban future. I commuted to work every day during the years I was a grad student/instructor while finishing up my doctoral studies. Even in mid-winter it was an easy commute.

BUT ... it was a short commute (just over a mile or so), not in an urban environment, not on major roads, and my wife had to have our one car for her 10-plus mile commute to her pay-the-groceries-and-rent job.

Commuting by bicycle in 'urbania' is just another overrated utopian scheme.
