RANDOM THOUGHTS: Police arrest ex-Marine in murder of New York mom. Never mind the story itself; it's all too common to waste words on. But why is it that nearly every time a violent crime is reported, the perpetrator's military history (if he or she ever served) is reported regardless of its relevance to the crime?

I don't think I've ever seen a headline "Police arrest Harvard grad in ... (whatever crime)."
