OF COURSE your health records are private.

According to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act [HIPAA], your medical records, without your express permission, can be disclosed to doctors, hospitals, insurance agents, billing clerks, marketers, researchers, the IRS, damn near anyone in the state or federal government, and the NSA (who 'honestly' steals them).

But if I want to know if my wife's doctor has finally gotten around to refilling a prescription so I can pick it up, I can't.

Feeling better now?
