COMPUTER HISTORY: The SAGE (Semi-Automatic Ground Environment) system. SAGE just barely predates my entry into the electrical engineering field (there was no such thing as computer engineering in 1962).

It's hard to comprehend how much radar and computer engineering have improved in the last 50 years. For example, the iPhone you carry in your pocket or purse is thousands of times more powerful than the SAGE's massive AN/FSQ-7 computer.
