IT'S INDEPENDENCE DAY, SO LET'S TAKE A RESPITE FROM THE 'NEWS'. WWII Vet: The things we fought for and the boys that died for it -- all gone down the drain.
Final final. I missed posting it yesterday but it pretty accurately describes my feelings about this year's Independence Day....

I REGRET EVER HAVING VOTED FOR HIM: Mitt Romney drops a dark, depressing July 4th message.
Our gentry sucks.
Our gentry sucks.
FINALLY, ON A POSITIVE NOTE, THE ETERNAL MEANING OF INDEPENDENCE DAY:
Lincoln's explanation of the meaning of Independence Day.May next year be better. Regular 'programming' resumes tomorrow as I find time.
An excerpt from President Calvin Coolidge's speech on the 150th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
REQUIEM FOR FREEDOMS LONG GONE? On a more somber note, are we celebrating Independence Day? Or, are we celebrating that once, we were independent?
"Let’s not lament that once we were free. Let’s celebrate that we will be again." And with that I will go out and watch the fireworks.

ORDINARILY I ENJOY THE 4TH OF JULY, but this year, the first of the Biden Administration, has been, shall we say, disappointing at the least. Here are some examples:
NPR (National Public Radio) scraps its traditional reading of the Declaration of Independence to instead discuss "what equality means." Instapundit takes note: "When will NPR decide to end its broadcasts altogether to make amends for its flawed founding?"
Arizona Democrats promote 'Fuck the 4th' event to 'mourn' Supreme Court abortion decision. Eventually they deleted the tweet and 'kinda-sorta' apologized....
The City of Orlando said people 'probably don't want to celebrate' July 4th; they finally backtracked and the Victory Girls took note.
On a somewhat brighter note, PJ Media columnist Kevin Downey offers five tips on how to have fun and annoy your liberal neighbors.

BECAUSE CRITICISM HURTS HIS FEELINGS: Why a gun control activist deleted his tweet about the Supreme Court abortion ruling.

MINE WERE 'PRE-WRECKED' BY BIDEN'S LOUSY ECONOMY: Airline labor shortages may wreck your summer travel plans.
TWO FAVORITES from this week's edition of PowerLine's Week in Pictures. Here they are:
Now go see the rest. They're good.
IT WOULD BE HELPFUL if Leftists like President Biden and New York Governor Kathy Hochul read an occasional history book.
THE SECOND AMENDMENT IS ALIVE AND WELL, so we'll tax it to death.
My Congressman, Andrew Clyde, has responded with a counterproposal to eliminate federal excise taxes on firearms and ammunition because no American should ever be taxed on their enumerated rights, on the theory that if the government can tax an individual's constitutional right, it's not really a right at all.
I find his logic appealing.

AMMO GRRRLL writes on the new bipartisan (unfortunately), unconstitutional, much-worse-than-useless Gun Control Act.
KURT SCHLICHTER: The case against Donald Trump 2024.
Schlichter also wrote on the case for Donald Trump earlier this month.
After reading the for and against, my conclusion is that Trump proved to be a great President, America is better off because of him, and would probably be even better off after a second term. But -- and this is a big but -- he would be fought tooth-and-nail by the Deep State establishment for the full four years of his second term.
I will certainly vote for him if he chooses to run, but I hope he chooses instead to let Trump-without-the-mean-tweets (Ron DeSantis) run in his place and concentrate his efforts on finding and supporting Trumpian conservatives at the Congressional, state, and even local levels to build a solid conservative bench for the future.
That would be a worthy legacy.

JANUARY 6 COMMITTEE delaying hearings until July due to ‘additional work’.
I was going to say that obviously they're going to delay until just before the mid-term elections, but no, they chose to double down on insane.
