TOO YOUNG TO DIE; too old to worry:
When should we set aside a life lived for the future and, instead, embrace the pleasures of the present?Actually, that's the wrong question. The right question is "When did we give up the right to live our lives freely, for better or worse, as we choose?"

ENTITLEMENTS AND CRONY CAPITALISM: ObamaPhone use in Maryland has grown 100-fold in 3 years.
Six-hundred-and-forty-five thousand Maryland residents had so-called ObamaPhones in 2012 — one hundred times as many people as there were in 2009, and double the number in that state who are supposed to be eligible for the program based on their income.Ten bucks a month times 12 months times 645,000 (one in 10 Marylanders, by the way) is a fair chunk of change. Most of which goes to the crony capitalists who cozy up to the regulators.

A LOOK at the unintended consequences of political correctness run amuck: The Vogue of "Social Responsibility".

Republicans would be well-advised to take their concerns seriously.

FALL FOLIAGE 2014: Week One. The acorns started falling about a week ago, so here is the first of my weekly photos as the foliage changes at our house.
Since we've had what everyone seems to think was a cooler-than-normal summer, the common thought is that we're due for a colder -- and earlier -- winter. But looking back, I notice this year's first photo is only a week earlier than the one last year.
I guess the trees aren't watching the Weather Channel.
