RANDOM THOUGHTS from the retirement lane on the arrogance of expertise. These days every time I listen to the radio, watch television, read the newspaper, or browse the web, I come across something that can be succinctly characterized as follows:

"Hey! HEY! Stop that! We're the experts and it's our job to take care of you."

Whenever the word expert is bandied about, it's always wise to remember the origin of the word: 'ex', as in has-been, and 'spurt', as in a drip under pressure.
