itsjustme971: Yes. There were certainly abuses in the system, but instead of regulating them they closed them down. The costs to society in law enforcement, prisons, social services, homeless programs and many other things, far outweigh the cost of mental hospitals.

So people with a limited grasp of things have that right and freedom and many times the doctors, police and soclial workers cannot do anything unless they can show the person is a danger to themself or others.
