MATT YGLESIAS on Obama's jobs speech: "The smart move, if you’re just going to give a speech for speech’s sake, is to make the speech be full of nonsense bromides that voters like to hear.”

From what I'm hearing on the nightly news, that's exactly what to expect.
THE IDEA of my federal 'family' reminds me of those creepy 'intervention' reality shows. Sorry, but I disinherit myself from my federal 'family'.
IF YOU'RE INTERESTED in random number generation, here's an article on digital randomness.
THE REVOLUTION in unmanned aircraft is overrated. Five reasons:
First, unmanned aircraft typically lack defensive weapons with which to protect themselves.

Second, unmanned aircraft are relatively fragile.

Third, unmanned aircraft aren’t really robotic in the sense of functioning autonomously.

Fourth, there is little likelihood that emerging technologies will enable unmanned aircraft to become autonomously capable and survivable in the near future.

Fifth, unmanned aircraft are not cheap — at least, not the high-end vehicles for which proponents harbor the most ambitious hopes.
Finally, pilots are still cheaper to produce.
FEDS TO TRUCKING COMPANY: You Cannot Fire Alcoholic Drivers. They're disabled, you see.

There's plenty of common sense in America; there's none in American government.
ACTUALLY, NOT SURPRISING AT ALL: "No one should be surprised that the White House is trying to play politics with their annual fall jobs speech. What is surprising is just how badly they are playing it."
WALTER E. WILLIAMS: good intentions (?); bad law.
SOYUZ FAILURE puts more pressure on SpaceX to deliver. Dragon's flight to the International Space Station is set for Nov. 30.
WHAT A TRADEOFF: cars or victims.
SCREW UP, MOVE UP, COVER UP: It's the Holder way, the Obama way, the Washington way.
AMERICA IS NOT THE TITANIC. No, the Titanic went down gracefully.
THE REASON OBAMA BLINKED: he knew he'd have no audience.
NASA: International Space Station may have to go unmanned. If it goes unmanned for any length of time, I doubt it will survive.
A VICE PRESIDENT for future President Perry?
KUHNER: a call for impeachment.
President Obama has engaged in numerous high crimes and misdemeanors. The Democratic majority in Congress is in peril as Americans reject his agenda. Yet more must be done: Mr. Obama should be impeached.

He is slowly - piece by painful piece - erecting a socialist dictatorship. We are not there - yet. But he is putting America on that dangerous path. He is undermining our constitutional system of checks and balances; subverting democratic procedures and the rule of law; presiding over a corrupt, gangster regime; and assaulting the very pillars of traditional capitalism.
It's an old piece (July 22) but worth a read.

AWAITING OBAMA'S EMERGENCY PLAN ....
OBAMA'S MIDAS TOUCH: President Obama made a high-profile visit in May 2010 to Solyndra Inc., a solar-panel manufacturing plant in Fremont, Calif. The company received $535 million in loans from the Energy Department and was a centerpiece of the Obama administration’s economic stimulus effort. On Wednesday, Solyndra closed its corporate headquarters, announced that it’s filing for bankruptcy and laying off 1,100 workers.
YOU BETCHA: Does the Government have Alaska in a regulatory stranglehold?
DR. MILTON WOLF: Prosperity starts with Americans, not Uncle Sam.
Martha’s Vineyard is a great place to avoid reality, but our president is well-rested now and ready to try his luck once more with a big-government stimulus program. This from the man who famously said, “We’ve got a big hole that we’re digging ourselves out of.” Please, just stop digging. Instead, give Americans themselves a chance to stimulate our economy.
I didn't know you could dig your way out of a hole -- unless, of course, he's planning on punching his way all the way through to somewhere southwest of Australia.
YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS UP: D.C. Government Claims Nonprofit Used Grant Money to Open Strip Club. "The mission of Miracle Hands, according to its website, is to 'implement strategies and programs designed to meet the needs of the city's most under-privileged and neglected communities'."

Which ones are the 'underprivileged and neglected' -- the strippers or the patrons?
