VOCATIONAL EDUCATION goes to college.
What used to be a classical liberal education has morphed into a non-classical 'woke' education which utterly destroyed its present value. A classical liberal education was --and remains -- valuable to those who could afford the price of graduating without an immediately valuable economic skill. For example, our Founders, almost without exception, were classically educated, learned little of immediate economic benefit to themselves and yet that knowlege gave us our founding documents
It was the Morrill Act, the ability to gain immediately useful economic skills beyond those available through secondary education, that allowed me to go to college. And the added advantage was that I had access to at least some of that classic liberal education in terms of the elective requirements at that time.
But no more. Even in the hard sciences (mathematics, engineering, physics, chemistry, etc.) liberal 'wokeness' has infected their curriculum. [But] there is evidence that hope exists. Findings from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center reveal that college enrollment “dropped by more than 2 million from 2011 to 2019” before the pandemic. In 2020 alone, undergraduate enrollment fell 4.5 percent—the largest decline in several decades.
Could it be that young people have been wildly oversold on the importance of a bachelor’s degree? With welders now earning $150,000 annually and free of student debt, a day of reckoning may be on the horizon. Perhaps more and more students will see that a two-year technical program or trade school is a more rewarding path. I rather suspect that Mike Rowe's television shows 'Dirty Jobs' and 'How America Works' will help make that so.
Two final notes: First, classical liberal education -- what I tend to call a Great Books of the Western World education -- is available online for those interested in the topics and not caring about being 'credentialed'.
And second, now that I'm retired and moved outside the urban and engineering 'bubbles' I used to inhabit, I'm heartened to find that the tradespeople (see Mike Rowe above) I deal with on a regular basis are much more knowledgeable (and capable) than the average 'credentialed' Harvard graduate.

Due to the Biden Administration’s careless economic policies, you and your family have experienced surging prices for months with no solution in sight. President Biden and Vice President Harris even visited Georgia last week to harp on our state’s election laws and label anyone who disagrees with their goal of Washington-controlled elections as a racist. This slanderous smear is wildly inappropriate and fails to acknowledge that Georgia has less restrictive but more secure voting laws than Biden’s home state of Delaware.
This latest pivot speaks volumes to how severely out of touch Democrats are with the American people. Rest assured, my Republican colleagues and I are hard at work to highlight the Left’s hypocrisy and advocate for commonsense solutions to all of Biden’s crises, including chaos at our southern border, surging crime, and harmful inflation.

The approval index is the difference between those who strongly approve of the President's performance and those who strongly disapprove, usually about 30% of those polled each. Note that he has never had a positive index. Here is the subset of those polled who approve his performance. Biden started 50-50, then mid-year started the drift down to where he is now -- about 40%. The strong approvals have declined more rapidly, from 35% or so initially to 20% today.
The bottom line is the difference between 'approve' and 'strongly approve', which has steadily increased. Not only are fewer people approving the President's performance, even fewer are strongly approving. Time's arrow is clearly moving the wrong way for the Biden administration. Next up is the subset of those polled who disapprove of his performance. The trend is clear, up about 10%, starting mid-year. What is somewhat startling is that the difference between 'disapproval' and 'strong disapproval' is relatively constant at about 10%. For every increase in 'disapproval' there is a corresponding increase in 'strong disapproval'. What is somewhat surprising is that the indifferent, that is, those neither strongly approving nor strongly disapproving, has slightly increased, from about 25% to around 30% today. I don't remember the originator (it was from the mid-60's drug culture) but the phrase "tune in, turn on, tune out" comes to mind.

Both, apparently, are falsehoods which over time have a memorable phrase taken as fact, and I'm reminded of them every time the Biden administration tries to use executive orders to accomplish his destructive goals.

MEMO FROM MY REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMAN: The truth that deserves to be told.
What started as a day to contest the 2020 election results due to troubling irregularities quickly spiraled into an infamous riot that has filled our airwaves and TVs for the last year – leaving little room to report on President Biden’s self-inflicted crises that continue to plague the American people. Those irregularities continue to this day, with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s announcement of pending subpoenas over strong evidence of illegal ballot harvesting.Well said.
Yet as we reflect on the last year, I’m concerned by the lack of sufficient reporting and information surrounding the truth behind January 6th – the truth that deserves to be told.
January 6, 2021 was a very troubling day in our nation’s history – I know because I was there. Determined to protect the chamber from rioters, I stayed on the House floor with several of my Republican colleagues and helped Capitol Police barricade the doors. I also heard the shot when an officer discharged his pistol that killed Ashli Babbitt.
Throughout my service as a three tour Navy combat veteran, I’ve seen the results of violence up close, and I do not believe it should be used as a form of political protest. But we must also have honest conversations about what truly transpired and what can be done to prevent another January 6th from ever happening again.
Unfortunately, this has been all but impossible in the current political climate, as our mainstream media lies about and berates any discussion that does not fit the Democrats’ narrative.
Due to their bias and intolerance, I quickly became a favorite target.
For the last seven months, the D.C. media machine has falsely claimed I was attempting to “whitewash” January 6th by simply pointing out in an Oversight hearing that video evidence of individuals walking through the Capitol in an orderly fashion – in contrast to violent protestors – indicated the event was a riot and not a planned insurrection. In that same statement, I condemned the violence of that day, which made their attacks even more insidious – yet totally unsurprising.
Moreover, according to both current and former law enforcement officials, the FBI agreed with this position, noting back in August that after the arrests of over 570 individuals (over 700 to date), that “…there was no grand scheme with Roger Stone and Alex Jones and all of these people to storm the Capitol and take hostages.” But again, this information doesn’t fit the Left’s “Republicans are the enemy” narrative.
Americans deserve answers, but Democrats have subverted the truth at every turn.
My Republican colleagues and I warned that if a Congressional investigation was not carefully structured in a fully bipartisan manner, that there would be dire consequences. That is exactly what has happened. First, the Democrats removed Republican members from the House Select Committee on January 6th that they did not like, leading Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy to remove all Republicans from the now sham committee. Since then, all nine Democrats on the Committee have continued to abuse their power to harass both members of Congress and private citizens, as well as gain access to communications records dating back as far as April 2020 that have nothing to do with that day’s events.
The Select Committee has had very little time, it seems, to gain access to the Department of Justice’s trove of 14,000 hours of video footage, investigate who planted pipe bombs at Republican and Democratic party headquarters, determine who directed Capitol Police to remove barricades and thereby allow hundreds of protestors through the doors of the Capitol, or conduct a review of the egregious failures by senior leadership of the Capitol Police to pass on intelligence that left rank and file officers stranded without any direction or communication. It is further puzzling, why after a year, no clear adjustments have been made to security protocols at the U.S. Capitol, except for useless magnetometers positioned around the House floor, and why the police force remains roughly 400 officers below authorized staffing levels – especially with the President and Vice President scheduled to be at the Capitol complex later this week.
These questions and others will likely never be answered in the short term, as Speaker Pelosi continues to block investigations into specific concerns, including why she refused six requests by Sergeant-at-Arms Paul Irvine to deploy the National Guard in the early hours of the siege.
Additional questions and frustrations surround the number of individuals that have been arrested for committing non-violent crimes on January 6th, such as parading or trespassing. All Americans should be infuriated that many of these crimes carry sentences far lower than the year many detainees have already spent in pretrial confinement in the D.C. jail.
While the liberal media has turned a blind eye to reports of neglect, nothing can hide the Left’s desire to persecute their political dissidents through solitary confinement, insufficient medical care, and other inhumane conditions. Congress must swiftly investigate these atrocious allegations – failing to do so signals to the American people that House Democrats condone this egregious abuse of power and violation of civil liberties.
President Reagan once said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.”
I have always supported an honest and thorough investigation of the events that transpired on January 6th, but I stand against all theatrics that slander Republicans as domestic terrorists in order to use the heavy hand of government to castigate and silence the Democrats’ political rivals. Furthermore, I refuse to allow the Left to vilify President Donald Trump’s voters, as well as use the events of January 6th as a distraction from the dangerous policies of the Biden Administration, including the border crisis, energy crisis, crime wave crisis, and hyper-inflation, that have destroyed our economy and thrown our nation into turmoil in just the first year of President Biden’s tenure.
Now is the time for all Americans to be unified in rejecting Big Government Socialist authoritarianism and partisan gamesmanship and to stand strong in defense of our great Republic, our Constitution, Civil Liberties, and Freedoms.

SOME THOUGHTS ON THE CORONAVIRUS 'PANICDEMIC'. Here are four charts taken from the data I've been maintaining since the start of the coronavirus panicdemic (that spelling is on purpose) in May of 2019. These charts are strictly from the Biden administration -- January 21, 2021 through January 6, 2022 -- and not the entire data set.
On January 21, 2021 there were a total of 25,171,717 confirmed cases and 419,603 confirmed deaths, for a cumulative death rate of 1.67% since I started maintaining daily data on May 14, 2019. Starting from that point, here's the data through January 6th of this year. The first two charts are cumulative. Confirmed cases (infections) and deaths both show a basically linear rise (red dashed lines) over time; about 97,000 cases and 1,200 deaths daily.
Until the omicron variant popped up, roughly in early to mid-December.
At that point confirmed cases rose sharply -- and are still rising at this posting -- at a rate of roughly 320,000 cases/day (up 230%), but the death rate has increased only modestly to about 1,400/day (up 16%). The number of daily deaths has varied wildly (this data has been smoothed) over the course of the coronavirus pandemic, but has been remarkably consistent as a percentage of cases as shown in the chart below. The blue line is the cumulative percentage, computed daily as the cumulative deaths/cumulative cases. It's been consistently in the 1.6%-1.7% range, and is just now beginning to drop as the omicron strain becomes dominant.
Red dots are the daily death data points, and the green dots are the 7-day smoothed data from the chart above.
My thoughts, for what they're worth, in no particular order:

The 'COVIDiot Panicdemic' was brought to you to maintain its power and control by the mostly Democrat deep state in accordance with Rahm Emmanuel's "never let a crisis go to waste" philosophy. That's not a conspiracy theory, just an observation about the greed and inflated sense of superiority (hubris) of America's gentry class.I've been tracking the 'panicdemic' almost daily for nearly three years now. Lockdowns didn't work, masking didn't work, and now vaccines aren't working. Mandates from above didn't, don't, and won't work. Theraputics, frowned on and uniformly dissed by our gentry ruling class, do work.
It is likely that of the 800-thousand plus deaths over the last nearly three years, half or more were with COVID, not of COVID. Here's some recent anecdotal evidence.
COVID has primarily been a killer of the aged and infirm. If I'm reading the data correctly, almost 90% of the deaths were of people over age 50; 65% over age 65.
According to Stastica about 16.6% (55 million) Americans are over 65; they 'contributed' 64% (about 550,000) deaths to the COVID count. The other 83.4% (275 million) Americans only 'contributed' 310,000 (0.113%) deaths.
Given the last chart on percentage of fatalities, the COVIDiot Panicdemic' is over. Even with skyrocketing infections with the omicron varient, fatalities are down, way down, in every demographic, nearing 0.2% in January. COVID has become a mild seasonal endemic to be treated as we have colds, flu, etc. in the past.
It's time to tell them -- gently if possible, ungently if not -- to shut up, go away and get back to normal life.

So, what is Biden's rock bottom? Biden's base (those strongly approving) seems to be around 20%, slowly declining to (my guess) about 15%. Those strongly disapproving seem to be remaining in the 45%-50% range, slowly creeping up, and without much distance between 'disapproving' and 'strongly disapproving' -- about 8% or so.
The middle, those who neither strongly approve nor strongly disapprove, seems to be hovering about the 30% level.
My guess is that rock bottom for Biden is minus 40, assuming that the Biden base (strongly approving) drops to the 15% level and the middle drifts more to the disapproving side. More likely in my estimation is that the Biden base will remain and disapprovals will increase, with the bottom being in the minus 32 to 35 level.
