Deaths continued to rise, peaking mid-week, and appearing now to be stabilizing. Even though deaths are rising sharply, the number of confirmed cases are rising even more sharply, and so the death rate continues to decline.

Georgia data remains in line with the national data, and the number of confirmed cases is appearing to be declining somewhat. Deaths peaked Nov. 14th, and have declined by nearly half since. Hospitalizations, however, continue to rise.

It appears that we're moving to a more conventional 'flu' season as people move indoors: the coronavirus is spreading more easily, and becoming much less lethal as the number of cases rises more rapidly than the number of deaths.

I was listening to Rush Limbaugh’s show last week while driving when a man called in to say that with Biden’s “election,” he is scared for himself and for his family. Rush said he understood. I don’t. Why are so many conservatives scared rather than angry about the election? What good is fear? Where is the outpouring of anger and disgust that all conservatives should have toward half the country that wants them cowed at best and dead at worst? Fear has no place here.

Anger is a response to injustice and conservatives have been dealing with this injustice for years with the rigged election being the final straw. Fear is helpless, unless perhaps it moves us to action. So rather than fear, stand up in righteous indignation, like Andrew Breitbart, who never gave up. This indignation was on full display at a protest I attended the other night. A woman leapt up like a bulldog when a leftist type started to tell the crowd of small business owners that they were to blame for the spread of Covid. She screamed at him til the crowd booed and he handed back the microphone and left. It wasn’t his event, it was for small business owners to get their voices heard.

The news, the media and every aspect of our society has had the angry voices of the liberals blaring for the past four years of the Trump presidency. Now these same angry jackals want unity –- hah! Not on your life, or mine. So stand up, don’t be afraid, be angry and take action. Go to a protest, write a letter, run for office, stand up to any leftist and never give up.

Trump has lost. But so has the anti-Trump establishment. In some ways, the establishment’s loss is far more significant. These elites see in the 70million people who disobediently, flagrantly voted for ‘evil’, and who question the doom and divisiveness and censure of the new elites, a genuine mass threat to their right to rule and their self-serving ideologies. And they are right to. For these unconquerables, these teeming millions who have not been captured by the new orthodoxies, are proof that populism will survive Trump’s fall and that the self-protecting narratives of the new elites are not accepted by huge numbers of ordinary people.

This is the real resistance. Not the upper-middle-class TikTok revolutionaries and antifa fantasists whose every view – on trans issues, Black Lives Matter, the wickedness of Trump – corresponds precisely with the outlook of Google and Nike and the New York Times. No, the resistance is these working people. These defiant Hispanics. Those black men who did what black men are not supposed to do. Those non-college whites who think college ideologies are crazy. These people are the ones who have the balls and the independence of mind to force a serious rethink and realignment of the political sphere in the 21st-century West. More power to them.

Daily deaths appear to have stabilized at about 1,000/day and confirmed positive cases remain constant at about 7% even as the daily number of tests performed continues to increase. The survival rate continues to improve; it's now 99.84%.

In Georgia, confirmed cases and deaths have steadied; positive tests remain at 7%, the same as the national rate.

For future reference, the coronavirus incubation period is 10-14 days. If masks work, we should see a big spike in infections, hospitalizations, and deaths among progressives soon....

FALLING LEAVES, 2020: Week 8:

We start the week with the usual pond view from our deck.

Everything not evergreen is now brown - and mostly gone.

Here's our road. A few reds left, but not much else.

Looking downhill toward the creek, there is still some color, mostly a result of the fact that last week's winds didn't get down into the valley. Otherwise they'd be gone.

Finally one from outside our little community. This was taken at an abandoned house on TVA property near the Lake Blue Ridge dam. I don't know the tree species, but the foliage is absolutely spectacular.

FALLING LEAVES, 2020: Week 7:

It's been an 'interesting' week in that we had a rain/windstorm that took out massive numbers of trees. We had 4 down in our tiny neighborhood, including a pine tree section that landed on our carport, crushed the satellite antenna, and took out about 12 feet of gutter. The storm also took down massive number of leaves as well; it's as if it were already winter.

With that, let's look at some pictures.

Here's my traditional view from the deck. Where last week there was some red and brown, today there's nothing but bare branches and 'bitter clingers'.

Here's the house, looking back from the property line. The little bit of green that you see are pines; the deciduous trees are all bare. The green at the bottom is the remains of the pine tree that landed on the carport, now confined to the 'future mulch' pile. The carpet of leaves that you can see is, in some places, several inches thick.

Here's our southern forest, which I call a jungle since the vegetation is usually so dense one can hardly see anything farther than a few feet. Not this year. So much has fallen and blown away by the winds that one can almost see the creek down below. And the hill beyond is visible, which is unusual to say the least.

Here's the pond itself. Being low and between the hills, it was less affected by the storm. There are still some reds and yellows visible, but mostly autumn is setting in -- leaves are turning brown, they're just not falling yet.

And finally, just for grins, here is a photo of that pine 'branch' that fell on the carport. Metal roofs are sturdy. I still haven't been able to clear all the detrius from the roof for a good view of possible damage, but so far I've only seen 2-3 tiny dents.
