The Left may try to delete the American flag from the history of the moon landing, but the flag will be there at least until Luna is colonized. And somehow I don't think there will be any Leftists clamoring to be part of the colonization.
A friend of mine reminded me of this story from the 40th year Apollo 11 reunion (July 2009):
About two weeks before the lunar landing, the design engineer at JSC was directed to design, build and have a flag placed on the moon. This was against international law, but Congress authorized and directed NASA to do it. The whole thing was to be secret. Two additional people from tech services were assigned help built it. He then took it to the Cape to find a place to strap it on the leg of the Lunar Module and coordinate with Neil Armstrong the placement on the moon. On July 20th 1969, as the engineer was watching the landing on TV, he watched Neil set the flag structure into the moon’s surface, raise up the arm and horizontally extend the flag. To his amazement, the flag did not fully extend, only going out about 80%! Checking his calculations he found he had made a design error with thermal coefficient of expansion of the tubes. Part of the problem was due to the secrecy of nobody else checking his analysis. He corrected the design for future missions. The engineer later became the Director of Engineering at JCS and for the rest of his career was stuck with answering all agency conspiratorial accusations that we had not landed on the moon because of the flag waving in the wind. And the [American] flag still 'waves' on Luna.
