THE WALL STREET JOURNAL: A Preview of Obama’s Post-Presidency. If the link doesn't work, a back door may be here.
The comments were mostly pro-Trump, but I found this Obama advocate's comment interesting:
Another interesting point: since the beginning of the Eisenhower administration (1953), the average growth rate for Democrat administrations is 9.6%; that for Republican administrations, 6.8%. So if the stock market is a proxy for wealth then Democrats, not Republicans, are the 'party of the rich'.
The comments were mostly pro-Trump, but I found this Obama advocate's comment interesting:
Well, I don't know about you, but we're up 150% in our 401k plans and our kids are home safely from the war GWB started for no reason. Thanks to Obama for pulling us out of the financial pit the Bush administration put us in, saving the auto industry and providing health care for millions.Looking back at the data using the Dow Jones Industrial Average as a proxy, the average market growth rate over almost any multi-year period is about 7.2% - or 174% over the 8 years of the Obama admininstation. Looking at just the Obama years, the average growth rate has been 10.6% - or 224%. Looks like our Obama acolyte is not the sharpest knife in the investment drawer, since 150% is just slightly better than the return of 10-year treasury bonds.

FAA TO SANTA MONICA AIRPORT: Sorry, but you can't evict tenants just because they're 'politically incorrect'.
If the evictions go forward, the city plans to replace Atlantic and American Flyers with its own municipal aviation company and sell bio-fuel for jets and unleaded gas for propeller planes to reduce aircraft emissions. Federal law allows governments that operate airports to provide services themselves instead of relying on private companies.Idiots.
The cease-and-desist order states that Santa Monica’s “unremitting effort” to remove critical aeronautical services and its “hostility” to the sale of leaded fuel still needed by many aircraft is “a clear contravention of law.”
The order notes that general aviation aircraft, business jets and turboprop aircraft cannot operate using the fuels approved by the City Council. It further states that the city has no desire to provide all the services offered by the companies, such as flight training.

IN DEFENSE OF THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE:
From my email. I can't vouch for the accuracy of the numbers, but they are consistent with county-by-county electoral maps I've seen online.
There are 3,141 counties in the United States.Sorry, but we get a vote, too.
Trump won 3,084 of them. Clinton won 57.
There are 62 counties in New York State. Trump won 46 of them. Clinton won 16.
Clinton won the popular vote by approximately 1.5 million votes.
In the 5 counties that encompass NYC, (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Richmond & Queens) Clinton received well over 2 million more votes than Trump. (Clinton only won 4 of these counties; Trump won Richmond.)
Therefore these 5 counties alone more than accounted for Clinton winning the popular vote of the entire country.
These 5 counties comprise 319 square miles. The United States is comprised of 3, 797,000 square miles.
When you have a country that encompasses almost 4 million square miles of territory, it would be ludicrous to even suggest that the vote of those who inhabit a mere 319 square miles should dictate the outcome of a national election.
Large, densely populated Democrat cities (NYC, Chicago, LA, etc.) don’t and shouldn’t speak for the rest of our country.

PROGRESSIVES have an over-shaming problem.
Writing at the Atlantic, Conor Friedersdorf has an interesting piece today titled “Too much stigma, not enough persuasion,” which points to a problem problem Democrats seem to have developed on social media, i.e. an eagerness to shame and humiliate anyone who fails to be sufficiently in line with their own understanding of a given social issue. The problem isn’t disagreement, it’s the immediate resort to public ridicule at the slightest provocation. The solution to this 'progressive' bullying is an immediate "You mistake me for someone who gives a shit what you think."
JEFF JACOBY: more eminent domain injustice.
At best, eminent domain is an unfortunate necessity — a last resort when land is needed for a public purpose, such as building a new school or a highway. But when government takes private property in order to benefit a private developer, or when it threatens to do so, it abuses its power and betrays the citizens it is supposed to represent.Increasing tax base is not a public use.

A CRITIQUE of infrastructure spending.
Centralized federal tax funding of these projects makes inefficiencies and waste even likelier, as Washington, driven by political calculations, gives the green light to bridges to nowhere, ill-considered high-speed rail projects, and other boondoggles.Click through and read the City Journal article. I'm not a fan of private/toll roads, but there is a case to be made for much less federal involvement in infrastructure construction and financing.
America needs an infrastructure renaissance, but we won’t get it by the federal government simply writing big checks. A far better model would be for infrastructure to be managed by independent but focused local public and private entities and funded primarily by user fees, not federal tax dollars.

CANADA MAY BUILD A WALL:
The flood of Trump-fearing American liberals sneaking across the border into Canada has intensified in the past week. The Republican presidential campaign is prompting an exodus among left-leaning Americans who fear they'll soon be required to hunt, pray, pay taxes, and live according to the Constitution. From my email.
Canadian border residents say it's not uncommon to see dozens of sociology professors, liberal arts majors, global-warming activists, and "green" energy proponents crossing their fields at night.
"I went out to milk the cows the other day, and there was a Hollywood producer huddled in the barn," said southern Manitoba farmer Red Greenfield, whose acreage borders North Dakota. "He was cold, exhausted and hungry, and begged me for a latte and some free-range chicken. When I said I didn't have any, he left before I even got a chance to show him my screenplay, eh?"
In an effort to stop the illegal aliens, Greenfield erected higher fences, but the liberals scaled them. He then installed loudspeakers that blared Rush Limbaugh across the fields, but they just stuck their fingers in their ears and kept coming. Officials are particularly concerned about smugglers who meet liberals just south of the border, pack them into electric cars, and drive them across the border, where they are simply left to fend for themselves after the battery dies.
"A lot of these people are not prepared for our rugged conditions," an Alberta border patrolman said. "I found one carload without a single bottle of Perrier water, or any gemelli with shrimp and arugula. All they had was a nice little Napa Valley cabernet and some kale chips.
When liberals are caught, they're sent back across the border, often wailing that they fear persecution from Trump high-hairers.
Rumors are circulating about plans being made to build re-education camps where liberals will be forced to drink domestic beer, study the Constitution, and find jobs that actually contribute to the economy.
In recent days, liberals have turned to ingenious ways of crossing the border. Some have been disguised as senior citizens taking a bus trip to buy cheap Canadian prescription drugs. After catching a half-dozen young vegans in blue-hair wig disguises, Canadian immigration authorities began stopping buses and quizzing the supposed senior citizens about Perry Como and Rosemary Clooney to prove that they were alive in the '50s.
"If they can't identify the accordion player on The Lawrence Welk Show, we become very suspicious about their age," an official said.
Canadian citizens have complained that the illegal immigrants are creating an organic-broccoli shortage, are buying up all the Barbara Streisand CD's, and are overloading the internet while downloading jazzercise apps to their cell phones.
"I really feel sorry for American liberals, but the Canadian economy just can't support them," an Ottawa resident said. "After all, how many art-history majors does one country need?

NATIONAL REVIEW: Republicans who care about the future of the party should ask answer these questions:
1. Does Donald Trump represent a long-term, ongoing shift in what the Republican party stands for?I've answered; now it's time for you to listen.
It should; whether it will or not is still an open question. I'm hopeful, but not sanguine.
2. What are the two to three things those of us who are [never Trump] Republicans need to understand after this election?
You don't represent us.
3. What is the relationship between the rise of Trump and something like Brexit?
We want our countries back. 'Globalization' is not the answer.
4. What has this year taught us about voters on the right that needs to inform any rebuilding?
We don't need -- or want -- you smug elitist bureaucrats telling us how to live our lives. Go get real jobs.
5. What has this year taught us about Republican politicians and institutions that needs to inform such rebuilding?
There is a vast stretch of real America between the east and west coasts.
And here is what we want:
Try visiting there more often; you might come to understand.
6. What do we need to learn and act on from the Trump experience?
The Republican party works for its voters; not conversely.
7. Assuming a significant Trump loss, what needs to be said and done first and most quickly?
Heh. Revisit your assumptions.
8. Is the Republican party still the best vehicle through which to advance a conservative agenda?
Yes, but you 'never-Trump' Republicans need to quit sulking and join the real world.
9. Is the two-party system the key to stability it’s been — or is it in fact part of the reason our democratic system is in chaos?
Yes, if we can return to a true two-party system from the 'establishment party' system we currently have.
10. What do we make of two sets of facts — the first being that the Republican party is made up of thousands and thousands of elected officials, most all of whom are conservative [and almost none of whom is running or will run as a disciple of Donald Trump;] and the fact that Mr. Trump is thenomineePresident-elect?
The part of your question I bracketed above tells you all you need to know about your so-called 'facts'.
11. Does the restoration of the Republican party require total reconciliation — or is there a faction that needs to be driven out?
Yes, the bureaucratic, smug, self-important, self-appointed elitists need to be driven out to spend a few years in that part of America that exists between the east and west coasts.
12. What is it that the center-right party in America needs to stand for?
Let's try freedom.

TRUMP WINS, Blue America tears itself apart.
I'm inclined to agree with Don Surber on this. If you in Blue America want to shit in your own nest, feel free. Just plan on cleaning it up yourself. If you want to shit in my America, make sure your dental insurance premiums are paid up.

CUE THE WORLD'S SMALLEST VIOLIN: Harry Reid is not taking Trump's election well. My sympathy meter hasn't budged from zero.
DON SURBER'S quote of the day. I think the real quote is in the comments: "Elections have consequences."
THESE PEOPLE are nuts clinically insane. Government didn't close the mental institutions, they just brought them in-house.

IN AMERICA, political violence is pretty much exclusively a phenomenon of the Left. Here is another example.
VICTOR DAVIS HANSON: A blow to the non-elite elite.

MORE HISSY FITS FROM YESTERDAY:
STILL MORE: When everyone gets a trophy, you don't know how to lose.Enjoy them all; I did.
CRYING WOLF: 9/11 Truther Van Jones, Trump supporter clash over Jones’ fear of internment camps on air at CNN.
STILL MORE SNOWFLAKES at the University of Tennessee and the University of Michigan-Flint.
MORE SNOWFLAKES riot....
STARBUCKS CEO HOWARD SCHULTZ is ‘stunned’ by Donald Trump’s win. Goodbye, Starbucks. You also make lousy coffee....
‘NOT MY PRESIDENT!’ Vandals set fires, smash windows, shut down streets in California after Trump win.
EMBITTERED DEMOCRATS engage in racist outbursts.
SNOWFLAKES: The PC idiocy at America’s universities....
PAUL KRUGMAN: Our Unknown Country. You should try getting out more, Paul.
TRUMP TANTRUMS: precious little snowflakes (read crybabies) don't like being spanked.
For Democrats, growing up is not an option.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: "Hillary Clinton carried the state [Colorado] last night and they were among the first to legalize recreational marijuana. (When you put it that way you sort of have to wonder if those two factors are related.)"
From this post on the spectacular failure of Colorado's single-payer health 'care' initiative.

CANADIANS STUNNED, realizing they are now stuck with Lena Dunham. What I don't understand is why they aren't going to Cuba or Venezuela as both are socialist paradises....
UPDATE: Moving sales.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Will these live up to their promises?

A NOTE to the Republican (and Democrat) political class: we vote for you; not conversely. Reince Priebus got that right in a Fox interview this morning when asked why he consistently supported Donald Trump in the runup to last night's election.
MEMO TO THE MSM: you might want to take a walk through Red America for a change.

JAZZ SHAW: The media blame-laying and finger-pointing has already begun.
And that's just today. I am sick and tired of all these nannyish bureaucratic bozos who provide me goods and services treating me as if I were too stupid to make my own decisions. Theycan are being told where they can stuff their pretentiousness.
How is it that we’re all accepting that the results of the primary and the conduct of the candidates during the general are somehow “wrong” and it must be somebody’s “fault” that we wound up in this situation? ... To imply that either the media or either party’s national committees should have somehow “done more” to ensure we didn’t wind up with these candidates is not only insane, but it reveals the general attitude which clearly lurks in the mind of not only Chuck Todd but too many people inside both the media and major party establishments. You unwashed peasants picked candidates we don’t approve of so we must have failed in our jobs of telling you who to support.Jazz is right, and it's not just the media and the political 'elites'. Earlier today I had a robocall from the doctor reminding me of a future appointment and trying to give me additional 'instructions' -- I hung up. Then I received a text message from my wireless provider telling me I had to put a password on my phone and that I needed to set up an online account. My response was to tell tell them to mind their own damn business.
Here’s a news flash for a news man. That’s not your job. That’s not the job of the parties. It’s never been your job. The media was supposed to just present the facts and give the candidates a space to put their views and plans on display so the voters could choose. The DNC and RNC were supposed to be referees in this match, not babysitters who shepherd us toward a preordained destination.
And that's just today. I am sick and tired of all these nannyish bureaucratic bozos who provide me goods and services treating me as if I were too stupid to make my own decisions. They
JEFF JACOBY: Another campaign ends and my wishes didn't come true.

Please. And wipe the handle afterwards....

KINKY FRIEDMAN for President. I think he would have made a good governor of Texas as well, but unfortunately I didn't live there when he ran.
THE FEDERALIST: Jeffrey Toobin doesn't know the first thing about [Supreme Court Associate Justice] Clarence Thomas's legal legacy.
The Left doesn't know much about anything. They're always certain, and always wrong.

EDUCATED WHITE LIBERALS are the intolerant ones this election cycle.
That tells you something about the state of [higher?] education today, doesn't it?

IT’S SCHRODINGER’S ELECTION: Hillary and Donald are each both President-elect and not President-elect, and they’ll stay that way until we open the box in a couple of days.
Can we just not open the box and do without?
Can we just not open the box and do without?
YES: Early voting is a bad idea. So is voting without verification of identity. And verification of citizenship.
HOW WHITE LIBERALS really view black voters. Dammit, don't victims know they're supposed to be victims?
NOTE: I struck out the word 'white' because the headline applies to liberals generally.

MAKE ROBBERY SAFE: The place my son tried to rob should have been a gun-free zone. Then why was her son [now deceased, thankfully] armed?
More here.

GOOD NEWS IF YOU LOOK FOR IT: the mainstream media seems intent on committing ritual suicide by eviscerating the tattered remnants of its credibility.

OBSERVATIONS ON the FBI’s Clinton email “reentry”.
My own thoughts date back to John Roberts' Supreme Court decision to accept ObamaCare as constitutional based on an interpretation of the mandate as a 'tax'. I argued at the time that the Supreme Court decision was a 'shot across the bow', expecting the Obama administration and Democrat Congress to get the message that the Affordable [heh] Care Act was unconstitutional as written and replace it.
They didn't; Democrats don't respect the Constitution.
FBI Director Comey made the same mistake with his non-indictment indictment in July, expecting Hillary to get the message and withdraw from the presidential campaign.
She didn't; she has demonstrated over the last 30 years that she has absolutely no respect for the law; that she is above it; and that she has utter contempt for anyone who believes that it should apply to her.
Thus the email reentry: get out now, or get indicted/impeached.
She won't, and she will.

MAYBE THE ELITES in and around Washington D.C. aren't as important as they think they are: Is Virginia in play?
After reading the post, I was about to suggest that children don't vote; then I remembered that Democrats are children.

FROM MY EMAIL: Ten reasons why I vote Democrat:
Number 10. I vote Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I've decided to marry my German Shepherd.Remember when you walk into the voting booth Tuesday.
Number 9. I vote Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene, but the government taxing the same gallon at 15% isn't.
Number 8. I vote Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.
Number 7. I vote Democrat because Freedom of Speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.
Number 6. I vote Democrat because I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves. I am also thankful that we have a 911 service that gets police to my home in order to identify my body after a home invasion.
Number 5. I vote Democrat because I'm not concerned about millions of babies being aborted so long as we keep all death row inmates alive and comfy.
Number 4. I vote Democrat because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care, education, and Social Security benefits, and we should take away Social Security from those who paid into it.
Number 3. I vote Democrat because I believe that businesses should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as the Democrat Party sees fit.
Number 2. I vote Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.
And the Number 1 reason I vote Democrat is because I think it's better to pay billions for oil to people who hate us, but not drill our own because it might upset some endangered beetle, gopher, or fish here in America. We don't care about the beetles, gophers, or fish in those other countries.
