I'M ALMOST ALWAYS against unions when they threaten strikes, but in this case I'm almost in favor of the union. PEPCO, the electric power provider for most of Washington DC is being threatened by the local union with a possible strike. Since PEPCO has been vilified over the years by local residents for outages caused by trees falling that they won't let PEPCO trim, I'm leaning toward allowing a strike that would give the residents of DC their just desserts.

DISGUSTING: Obama Campaign Finds New Way to Divide Families.
Here's a more reliable factoid. With a simple back-of-the-envelope calculation, I can show that paying off the current $16 trillion national debt will cost every man, woman, and child alive in America today at least $10 per day for the next 30 years.
Just the $4 trillion that Obama has saddled us with over his administration will cost each American roughly $2 per day.
And we're even considering re-electing him?

MICHAEL BARONE ON OBAMA: Industrial Age Solutions to Information Age Challenges.
His favorite high-tech project is to build enormously expensive high-speed rail lines like the one Jerry Brown is pushing in California.Read it all.
Meanwhile, Google is developing self-driving cars that will be able to move faster and more efficiently than current cars because their 21st century technology, like the 19th century technology of fixed rails, effectively prevents cars from colliding.
Nineteenth century fixed rails take you where the railroad, or its government subsidizer, wants you to go. Self-driving cars will take you where you want to go, with as many stops as you like along the way.

DON'T MESS WITH AN OLD WOMAN.
From my email.
An old woman prospector shuffled into town leading a tired old mule. The old woman headed straight for the only saloon to clear her parched throat.
She walked up and tied her old mule to the hitch rail. As she stood there, brushing some of the dust from her face and clothes, a young gunslinger stepped out of the saloon with a gun in one hand and a bottle of whiskey in the other.
The young gunslinger looked at the old woman and laughed, saying "hey old woman, have you ever danced?"
The old woman looked up at the gunslinger and said, "No, I never did dance ... never really wanted to."
A crowd had gathered as the gunslinger grinned and said, "Well, you old bag, you're gonna dance now," and started shooting at the old woman's feet.
The old woman prospector - not wanting to get her toe blown off - started hopping around. Everybody was laughing.
When his last bullet had been fired, the young gunslinger, still laughing, holstered his gun and turned around to go back into the saloon.
The old woman turned to her pack mule, pulled out a double-barreled shotgun, and cocked both hammers.
The loud clicks carried clearly through the desert air. The crowd stopped laughing immediately.
The young gunslinger heard the sounds too, and he turned around very slowly. The silence was almost deafening.
The crowd watched as the young gunman stared at the old woman and the large gaping holes of those twin barrels.
The barrels of the shotgun never wavered in the old woman's hands, as she quietly said, "Son, have you ever licked a mule's butt?
The gunslinger swallowed hard and said, "No, ma'am ... But ... I've always wanted to."

2 - Don't waste ammunition.

STEPHEN STROMBERG is a local activist masquerading as a Washington Post editorial writer. In this post he uses Mitt Romney's view on charity as a precursor to attack Romney for 'dishonesty' (as if Obama has been less dishonest). Ignoring the issue of 'honesty' I would remind Mr. Stromberg and his fellow liberals that spending other people's money on 'charitable' activities of (at best) dubious worth is not a universal value.

PAUL GREENBERG on Benghazi and terrorism:
How is it, do you suppose, that a presidential candidate who wasn't privy to all the military and diplomatic intelligence that the White House should be able to command, understood the nature of this violence, and what incites it, almost instinctively?Read it all.
Why did Mitt Romney sense what was behind this gathering storm? Why did he know, and say, that an America in retreat across the Middle East, offering apologetic obeisance as we withdraw, presents a natural target for the worst elements in the Islamic world? While our president still seems blind to the dangers he has invited since he began his administration by going to Cairo to confess America's sins -- and the West's -- and offer "a new beginning." Which now has turned into the same old treachery.
In retrospect, it is Mitt Romney who seems to have been the prescient statesman, Maybe it's because understands that peace is assured by strength. Barack Obama and his press secretary seem to be discovering only slowly -- and at great cost -- where weakness leads. While good men representing this country with extraordinary vision and valor, like our murdered ambassador to Libya, pay the ultimate price.
WELL, HOW ABOUT THAT? 79 percent say all Americans should pay income taxes. Even a majority of Democrats.

ELECTION SEASON'S GREETINGS
T'was the night before elections,From my email.
And all thru' the town,
Tempers were flaring
Emotions ran up and down.
I, in my bathrobe
With a cat in my lap,
Had shut off the TV,
Tired of political crap.
When all of a sudden,
There arose such a noise,
I peered out my window,
Saw Obama and his boys.
They had come for my wallet,
They wanted my pay
To hand out to others
Who had not worked a day!
He snatched up my money,
And quick as a wink,
Jumped back on his bandwagon
As I gagged from the stink.
He then rallied his henchmen
Who were pulling his cart.
I could tell they were out
To tear my country apart!
On Fannie, on Freddie,
On Biden and Ayers!
On Acorn, on Pelosi'
He screamed at the pairs!
They took off for his cause,
And as they flew out of sight,
I heard him laugh at a nation
Who wouldn't stand up and fight!
So I leave you to think
on this one final note.
If you don't want socialism
Get out and vote!

REP. ALLEN WEST: Black Americans should vote for Mitt Romney.
More than 95 percent of black voters voted Democratic in the last election. I am hoping we can change this status quo. When you invest your money, you diversify. You don’t put it in one single account. Black Americans need to invest their political capital so they have a voice across the entire political spectrum. If we don’t, the black community will be taken for granted and risk becoming politically irrelevant.Better a hand up than a handout.

VIRGINIA ATTORNEY GENERAL KEN CUCCINELLI:
Dear Friends,From my email.
In the Presidential election of 2008, Northern Virginia saw about 80% voter turnout. It was only 67% in southwest Virginia. I don't think the Virginians hardest hit by Obama's presidency are going to let that happen again.
Everyone is a stakeholder in this election, but for my fellow Virginians in Southwest and Southside, their livelihoods are at stake.
The coal industry is facing a direct assault from the Obama administration. That fact was illustrated on Tuesday when Virginia's largest coal company, Alpha Natural Resources, had to lay off 10% of its workforce and close down 8 mines, 3 or which are right here in Virginia.
There are several factors that led to Alpha's decision: over-regulation (including illegal over-regulation) by the EPA, increasing competition for electricity generation from natural gas, and an Obama economy that isn't growing and is plagued with uncertainty.
The EPA - which I like to refer to as the Employment Prevention Agency - is so out of control that they are even trying to regulate water as a pollutant under the Clean Water Act. If that sounds crazy, it is. Even the Democrat-heavy Fairfax County Board of Supervisors agrees with me that this is an egregious overstep of the Federal government.
Many companies are waiting to make important decisions about expanding until after November 6th, hoping they'll get a clearer picture of where their regulatory burden is headed. President Obama and Governor Romney have expressed clear visions of which direction they would take the country. More regulations with President Obama, especially when he gets more "flexibility" after the election. Less regulations with Governor Romney.
This week I got the opportunity to tour a brand new hybrid power plant in Wise County, Virginia. The plant is by far the cleanest coal plant in the country. It provides hundreds of well-paying, permanent jobs in a region that has been hardest hit during the economic slowdown.
If President Obama has his way, the Wise County power plant will be the last coal-fired power plant built in the country. This policy is foolish and disregards a viable source of energy. The new technology used is much more efficient and produces substantially less emissions than older plants built in the 1960s and 70s. Obama's (often illegal) assault on coal has already given us higher electricity prices and destroyed jobs.
In northern Virginia we have a pretty diversified economy — if one industry failed it would be a setback, but it wouldn't bring the region to a halt. That is not the case in southwest Virginia. That pizza joint in Wise doesn't exist without coal.
Obama says he has an "all of the above energy policy." I'd like to see him tell that to these families that are struggling to get by. These are hardworking people that take pride in their honest work and do not want to depend on the government—they just want the government to get out of their way!
This week I met with GOP and Tea Party groups from Bristol to Roanoke. They are committed to defending their jobs and promoting policies that get us back to free markets. They're not going to have a repeat of the low voter turnout this time. This election is too important. It means their job. It's for their family. It's for our future.
In the small amount of downtime I had while traveling around southwest I was able to make it into the Hokie Victory office in Blacksburg. I think we can all find some time in our schedule to help out. Every hour counts. Every phone call is an opportunity to swing a vote.
This election may not be decided by one vote, but it might be! I won my last state senate race in a recount - I know personally that every vote counts. Please join me in supporting both the Romney/Ryan ticket and George Allen's Senate campaign. Please work every free moment to elect them into office.

MONTANA BEAR TRAGEDY
This is a very sad story about a bear... Everybody should heed the warnings not to feed wildlife because they become dependent and don't forage for themselves any longer. It is such a tragedy to see what has been done to our country's wildlife. The photo below captures a disturbing trend that is beginning to affect U.S. wildlife.
Animals that formerly were self-sufficient are now showing signs of belonging to the Democratic Party. They have apparently learned to just sit and wait for the government to step in and provide for their care and sustenance.

FORMER VIRGINIA GOVERNOR and Democrat Senate candidate Tim Kaine will consider a minimum income tax for every American. UNCOMMON KNOWLEDGE: an interview with Thomas Sowell.
Now anyone who studied history knows that for the first 150 years of this country the federal government did not intervene when the economy turned down. And all that time the downturns all corrected themselves; one of the most classic examples was under Warren G. Harding when, during his first year in office, he found the unemployment rate at 11.7 percent. He did absolutely nothing; he did not spend more government money, he cut back on spending. The Federal Reserve had the interest rates up at 6 or 7 percent, not down at 1 percent, where they are now. The next year unemployment was at 6.7 percent; the year after that it was 2.4 percent. So the economy has recuperative powers. I mean employers have an incentive to hire people. Workers have an incentive to get jobs. Lenders have incentives to lend. It's long (nearly 40 minutes) but worth every minute.

At which point the GOP might as well close shop and take the rest of the century off.Don’t say you weren't warned.

A MESSAGE FROM THE TEA PARTY PATRIOTS
Over the last several weeks, I have received emails from some of our supporters who say they think the system is so broken it cannot be fixed and our efforts are futile. They are angry at the Republican nominee who does not fight hard enough for our core values. They are angry at the Republican “leadership” in the House who are spineless and unable to make any real spending cuts.
At the same time, I have also had emails and conversations with Patriots who say they simply cannot sleep at night because they fret as they lay down that they may not have done everything within their power each day to make the most difference and impact they possibly can leading to Election Day. One Local Coordinator in the Orlando, Florida area mentally checks off all he has done each day to spread the word on our core values and if he fell short one day he knows what he must do different the next day. Another Local Coordinator in Virginia wakes up at 2 am each night and starts thinking about what he needs to do the next day to insure he is teaching everyone he meets what is at stake in November. These men are angry with Republicans as much as the emails from the people who are discouraged. They see our choice in 50 days as a stark contrast and are motivated to fight.
This week as I watched breaking news as our embassies were stormed in the Middle East and then around the world, bomb threats, university evacuations, Congress passing a Continuing Resolution to continue spending and to fund Obamacare for 6 months, the announcement of another quantitative easing that will be indefinite rather than fixed. The problems we face as a country seem overwhelming and often times impossible.
Two weeks ago on our webinar with Local Coordinators, one coordinator said that since the Supreme Court ruling on the President’s health care law she feels “grim determination.”Determination.
Dictionary.com defines determination as the act of coming to a decision or of fixing or settling a purpose; the quality of being resolute; firmness of purpose. Synonyms for determination are bravery, backbone, dedication, drive, persistence, and resolution.
As I read the breaking news this week, I am once again reminded of Winston Churchill’s quote, which I have quoted countless times to our Tea Party Patriots supporters, “Never, ever, ever, ever, ever give up.” I am also reminded of our Support Team member Keli Carender’s favorite quote, again by Sir Winston Churchill,
Ours is a “choice between two fundamentally different visions for the future:” one where we adhere to the Constitution, the checks and balances, and maintain the rights of the citizens as ordained by our Creator not by our government or one where we allow a statist government, allow breaches in the rule of law to occur without checks or balances, where freedom will slip away at the cost of security and whatever the government decides we are entitled to have. Simply put the choice is freedom or serfdom.
You are reading this and involved in Tea Party Patriots because you choose freedom.
As soon as the elections are over, our work must continue and continue at full force no matter the outcome and especially if the Republicans win the Senate and the White House. The lack of true leadership in the Republican Party is startling. The fact that the Republicans just passed a deal with the Democrats to fund Obamacare for 6 months, a law that the vast majority of Americans want repealed. The fact that both parties and mostly the Republicans are backing off the forced sequestration cuts forged by the debt deal of last summer – just 14 months ago. Since Congress cannot even be trusted to keep the promises and laws in tact that they passed less than 18 months ago, we know we must watch every single thing they do to insure we return to a fiscally responsible, constitutionally limited government once more. We have and will continue to hold both parties accountable because we know politicians and parties are fallible. We will continue to defend, support, and endorse our core values because they will not fail us.
The challenge is daunting especially when looking at what has happened in America in just the past week. But, compared to other challenges America has faced in her history, is this challenge truly impossible for us? Our country started against all odds when a ragtag army stood up to the greatest empire in the world and demanded their freedom. Many said it could not be done. Most governments are designed to restrict the governed but we are a government of the people, by the people, for the people. Our country grew from a small nation to one capable of saving the world from Nazism. We defeated communism in the Cold War. Our free market system invented the modern world: light bulbs, telephones, airplanes, personal computers, ipods, iphones, and Google. Americans have consistently taken the more difficult road, beat the odds, and created a better future than most thought possible.
Our job is to remind our fellow citizens that our Constitution and the rights guaranteed therein are what made America’s accomplishments possible. We must remind these citizens what is a stake and what the two choices for America’s future are. We must remind them that our choice for freedom is what they want for America as well. It will not be easy. Like the coordinators who have grim determination and cannot rest without thinking about all they are capable of doing to preserve our freedom, we too must evaluate our actions through Election Day and immediately following so our country’s voters choose the future of freedom on November 6. Join us to make the call, walk the neighborhoods, send the postcards, and do all the work it takes to insure there are more of us who cherish freedom than those who are willing to slide into serfdom on November 6. Then be prepared to keep fighting as soon as elections are over because the work of accountability will be just as urgent and perhaps even more difficult.
We can still beat the odds! We can prevent America’s bankruptcy and create a more prosperous America than ever. If, today, right now, we make the right choice for the vision of our future and fight “when our victory will be sure and not too costly.”
Let us have the determination, the boldness, the persistence, the courage, the perseverance, against all odds to create a more productive, prolific, prosperous, and plentiful America than ever before!
In Liberty,
Jenny Beth Martin

There may even be a worse case: you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.”The election this November is going to determine 2 different futures for our country. President Obama had it right at the DNC Convention when he said this election is, “a choice between 2 different paths for America, a choice between two fundamentally different visions for the future.” President Obama has all but declared he will be a dictator if re-elected and Congress stands in his way. Those of us in Tea Party Patriots will have seen that and said he is doing it already throughout his first term in presidency. Now he is being so bold that he says it outright in the Time magazine interview:
"So my expectation is that there will be some popping of the blister after this election, because it will have been such a stark choice. Where Republicans refuse to cooperate on things that I know are good for the American people, I will continue to look for ways to do it administratively and work around Congress. And a good example of that is, for example, making sure that homeowners around the country can take advantage of these historically low rates and refinance. If we as citizens allow a man who is very clearly saying there are two different choices for America and his way is to implement his agenda with or without Congressional approval, we are giving permission to this behavior.
There’s no reason Congress can’t move forward and at almost no cost to the federal government really boost the housing market and our economy. But if Congress won’t do it, we’ll keep on looking for ways to get that done without legislation."

VIRGINIA ATTORNEY GENERAL KEN CUCCINELLI:
Last week one of our largest coal mines in Buchanan County was idled and hundreds of our fellow Virginians were placed on indefinite unpaid leave. This isn't the first economic hardship our state has faced, and certainly won't be the last. However, this one is different than anything we've seen before. From my email.
When he took office, President Obama promised to turn the country and our economy around. He took drastic measures by passing massive bailouts and supposed jobs programs. Not only have these policies not gotten Americans back to work, but they have increased our nation's debt by over $5 Trillion in less than four years.
Just like the law of gravity, which cannot be defied, there are undeniable and unavoidable economic laws.
In an economy that was already struggling and where resources were hard to come by, why would the President enact job-destroying regulations on private sector businesses that are trying to just stay afloat?
When President Obama spoke about creating jobs, he was talking only about jobs that get his permission. That's why his administration "invested" more than $500 Million into the now bankrupt Solyndra solar energy company.
At the same time that Obama was throwing money at his pet, Solyndra, he was taking it from hardworking American taxpayers and borrowing it from our kids and grandkids.
Obama has been choosing winners and losers. The winners were his Washington cronies and the losers are anyone who works in an industry not favored by President Obama.
This week I am taking a trip to Southwest Virginia. I'll again see firsthand the devastating effects of Obama's economy on the lives of the individuals in small communities in places like Abingdon and Wytheville.
Let's be clear, every time that President Obama comes out against coal, or other industries, it is a direct attack on the livelihood of Virginians.
We have the largest coal exporting port in the United States right here in Hampton Roads. Even if you don't work directly for a coal company, coal provides almost half of all of Virginia's energy, and in the poorest parts of Virginia, coal powers over 75% of the electricity.
President Obama's war on jobs has to end. It's time to stand up to President Obama and tell him that he doesn't know best. Individuals are better at making personal decisions than any government.
We are a country that was founded on the principle that we can all earn our own living - not take some government handout, or ask the government to pick and choose winners and losers, but to really earn it for ourselves.
Mitt Romney understands who built this economy: hard working American entrepreneurs. He understands that the free market is the driving force of innovation, and when our own government stays out of our way is when we achieve the most.

They want you to eat your gruel, take your medicine and re-elect the president because he knows more about what’s better for you than you do. JEFF JACOBY on the Chicago teachers' strike:
Only in government work would employees claim that so lousy a record entitles them to still more hefty raises, or to a level of job security virtually unheard-of in the private economy. Such an outrageous sense of entitlement is among the poisoned fruit of public-sector collective bargaining, which empowers union officials with influence they have no right to -- influence they preserve by exploiting other people's pain.Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel should have pulled a Ronald Reagan, fired them all, and dissolved the union.

RANDOM THOUGHTS from the retirement lane. Running errands yesterday, I heard on the radio that experts from some think tank believe bombing Iran will lead to general Mideast war. I say bring it on; the infectious variant of Islamism we're seeing today is going to make a wider war inevitable. The wise course might be to get it over now.

MORE ON 'SHOOTING BACK':
I’ve just seen a headline about how al-Qaeda has urged its people to kill more U.S. diplomats. And I was thinking, this is an old, old story . . .The link is here.
Our ambassador to Sudan, Cleo Noel, was killed in 1973. He was killed on direct orders from Yasser Arafat. Vernon Walters told me that he personally listened to the intercepts. (Walters was at the CIA at the time.)
In 2004, just for the hell of it, I asked Efraim Halevy, the former head of the Mossad, “Why doesn’t my country hold it against Arafat that he had Noel murdered?” Halevy said, “I don’t know.”
When I related this to Bill Buckley, he said, “‘I don’t know’ can be a powerful answer,” which it was.
Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter were very close to Arafat. After the Gulf War, the Saudis were unhappy with Arafat, because he had sided with Saddam Hussein. They cut off funding to him. Arafat asked Carter to fly to Riyadh to smooth things over for him. He did.
Carter also ghostwrote speeches for Arafat. A sample? “Our people, who face Israeli bullets, have no weapons: only a few stones remaining when our homes are destroyed by Israeli bulldozers.” (If you’re interested, you’ll find this stuff in my book on the Nobel Peace Prize. Arafat and Carter were fellow laureates, of course.)
In the eight years of Bill Clinton, who was the single most frequent foreign visitor to the White House? Arafat.
When I interviewed Condoleezza Rice, while she was serving as national-security adviser, she answered every question I put to her, except one — about Cleo Noel (and Arafat’s responsibility for his murder). Interesting.
Another name came across my mind in the last couple of days: Malcolm Kerr. When I was a Near Eastern Studies student, he was a big deal, an important scholar. I had some writings of his assigned to me. He was president of the American University of Beirut. When I was in college — reading him — he was killed.
There are many, many more names, of course. I think of Col. William R. Higgins, who was with the peacekeeping force in Lebanon. I’m talking about blue helmets, U.N. troops. Hezbollah got a hold of him — they tortured him and hanged him. They then circulated a film of what they had done. This is regarded as the first of a new genre: the jihadist snuff film.
I could go on, and I’m sorry about the extreme melancholy of this post. But there is more than melancholy: an extreme indignation, and an eagerness to see these SOBs stood up to (emphasis mine).

SPACE POLITICS:
The opening session of the AIAA Space 2012 conference in Pasadena, California, on Tuesday was originally billed to include a “presidential candidates forum” on space issues, featuring representatives of Barack Obama and Mitt Romney campaigns. However, no forum took place during that opening session, since AIAA could not get commitments from the two campaigns to take part.Nothing. Pity.
