This is personally interesting to me, given that (I believe) I had polio in 1954, the year before the Salk vaccine was introduced and in the middle of the 'DDT years' from 1940 to 1960. If so, I was lucky; I had a mild case of the bulbar strain.

And completely recovered -- until I discovered post-polio syndrome in my mid-60's. Mostly I've come to live with post-polio; it's progressive and debilitating, but not fatal.

So I have had polio - the question is whether or not it was caused by the vaccine. Prior to COVID, I was sure I was 'lucky'. With the post-COVID revelations, I'm now not so sure.

Thanks to Dr. Anthony Fauci and the Public HealthScare^TM community (CDC/etc.), my trust is now close to zero.

2025 SPRING LEAVES, WEEK 10 FINALE: Last week my first picture was of a 'dead tree budding'. It turned out the tree is healthy and in full green at the crown; it was just beginning to bud out at the bottom because of the dearth of sunlight at that corner of the house. It's doing fine now. That said, here are the usuals: our pond from the back deck; the trees across the road from our driveway, the barn and lawn (finally greening), and the fire pit.

The pond is now almost fully obscured by the foliage; this is what we'll see for the rest of the summer. Across from the driveway, the trees have finally filled in. There will always be a bit of a gap there as we had several die a few years ago. All's mostly green along and the road. The grass is still a bit thin, and we'll be reseeding in the next few weeks. The fire pit area is looking very good; everything is green and our garden plants are flourishing.

Along the fence by the road, the iris have all bloomed and the drift roses are beginning to blossom. That whitish spot at center left is Percival, also known as Mr. Underfoot since that's pretty much where he stays whenever I'm outside.

We leave the year with some pictures from down at the pond. There are several azalea bushes down there, and they're still in full bloom. The pond picture is taken from a walkway around the pond I don't usually take, but with the absence of wind today the pond surface is a mirror; it's hard to distinguish reality from mirrored reality. The last picture is the 'road' that leads to the pond from the subdivision. It isn't yet a tunnel, but that's coming soon if we don't at least trim the edges.

2025 SPRING LEAVES, WEEK 9: It appears that my spring 'poof day' is not to be this year. The weather here this spring has been so weird that the vegetation has gotton so confused that it doesn't know when to wake up. Here's an example.

I assumed this tree, and one other located nearby, were dead -- until they just started to bud a few days ago.

Looking across the street, the grass is greening nicely and the iris are growing well (having given up their first flowers). but the trees have lagged behind. Most are filled out now, but there are many in the background that have just begun to flesh out.

Our pond is beginning to hide behind the tulip magnolia and the ground cover, but the tree crowns on both sides of the pond have just begun to flesh out with leaves. Even some of the pine trees are sparse this year.

The barn/firepit area is looking a lot more 'summery'; even so, there is still a sparseness in the leaves at the tops of the trees.

The ferns along our retaining wall in back have gone from almost nothing to full growth.

And our house has almost returned to it's summer glory. Notice, though, that the trees behind the house are still sparse.
