DIVERSITY TRAINING: a stupid and futile gesture.
The world that the diversity trainers will usher the baristas into has a pristine, seamless wholeness to it. It is a world unto itself, unblemished by contact with reality, built from pure ideology: untutored trainers instructing blameless subjects in bogus science to cure a psychological defect that can’t be shown to exist, all at a staggering expense of time and money. Only a capitalist country as rich as ours could survive what its capitalists are doing to it.

Others include nominating conservative judges, cutting taxes and reforming the tax code, increasing military spending, eliminating or trimming excessively burdensome federal regulations, effectively ending Obamacare’s individual mandate, enforcing immigration laws, expanding domestic energy production, withdrawing from the Paris climate accord, aligning the U.S. more closely with Israel, being tougher with Iran, and, for that matter, being tougher with Russia.
It's a good beginning, but only a beginning.
QUESTION: Why does the Islamic world lag behind?

MEMORIAL DAY 2018: Another reminder that our freedom didn't come cheaply.
It’s all too easy, especially for those of us blessed to have grown up in this great land, to take our liberty for granted. We forget that freedom isn’t free. It must be paid for, and not just once.

Again and again, Americans have stepped forward in a moment of crisis and put their lives on the line.

They fought in the American Revolution – both in the heat of summer and in the dead of winter, when snow blanketed the ground, supplies were low, and the outlook was bleak.

Our patriots prevailed, but the struggle for freedom didn’t end there. It has played out on many other battlefields in the years since. Antietam and Gettysburg. Belleau Wood and Cantigny. Iwo Jima and the Bulge. Heartbreak Ridge and Hamburger Hill. Baghdad and Kabul.

It’s their sacrifice we mark on Memorial Day. And while we feel so much sadness for their loss, I think there is something else we should consider when we recall those who fell in battle.

It comes down, I believe, to what motivated those brave men and women to do what they did. Imagine walking towards danger and possible death when every fiber of your body is screaming at you to seek shelter. What makes you march toward the guns rather than flee from them?

A soldier, it is said, fights not because he hates who is in front of him, but because he loves who is behind him.

I think that’s what it all comes down to. Those we commemorate on Memorial Day fought for mothers and fathers. For sisters and brothers. For sons, daughters, comrades, and all others they held dear.
America remains worth fighting for.

On the Right, the reason is equally singular and simple: a near-universal belief that the Left would use any means, legal or illegal, moral or immoral, to retain control of the levers of power.

And the fervor with which each side defends its theory is again simply explained: revenge.

A biker jumps off his Harley, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose

letting go of the girl and the biker brings the girl to her terrified parents,
who thank him endlessly. A reporter has watched the whole event.

The reporter addressing the Harley rider says, "Sir, this was the most gallant
and bravest thing I've seen a man do in my whole life."

The Harley rider replies, "Why, it was nothing, really The lion was behind
bars. I just saw this little kid in danger, and acted as I felt
right."

The reporter says, "Well, I'll make sure this won't go unnoticed. I'm a
journalist, you know, and tomorrow's paper will have this story on the front
page. So, what do you do for a living, and what political affiliation do
you have?"

The biker replies "I'm a US. Marine, a Republican and I voted for Trump".

The journalist leaves.

The following morning the biker buys the paper to see if it indeed brings news of
his actions, and reads, on the front page:

I CALL IT VIRTUE-SIGNALING: Today’s consciousness-raising on race is less about helping black people than it is about white people seeking grace.
I'VE BEEN INTRIGUED by the names given different generations (Baby Boomers, etc.) so I began looking around to find out what, if anything, characterized a generation name. Answer: nothing really.

What stood out is that a 'generation' is characterized mostly by an interval between about 11 and 17 years, averaging about 15. So I decided to create my own generation chart. Here it is:


The first four are the usual suspects, with the consensus birth periods in parentheses. I started over and used a consistent 15 year birth interval to give the birth periods in brackets at the right. The consensus generation chart shows both my wife and I as of the Silent Generation; my chart puts us in the Baby Boomer generation, which strikes me as more realistic as we were both born at the very end of WWII.

The last two categories represent my (somewhat jaundiced) assessment of the future BT (before Trump). His successes to date may encourage me to change that assessment.

What is strange, however, is that people suffering from mental illness decide to mow down their classmates instead choosing to seek help or being flagged by their parents, classmates, or teachers. Two decades or so ago, people still faced similar problems – disappointment with their lives due to normal, coming-of-age pressures. But the Times knew that Pompeo was heading to North Korea to make sure that three Americans who had been jailed by the dictatorship would be coming home.
