NOBEL PEACE PRIZE WINNER receives another award:

Jimmy Carter also won a Nobel Peace Prize....
THE WALL STREET JOURNAL: A Preview of Obama’s Post-Presidency. If the link doesn't work, a back door may be here.

The comments were mostly pro-Trump, but I found this Obama advocate's comment interesting:
Well, I don't know about you, but we're up 150% in our 401k plans and our kids are home safely from the war GWB started for no reason. Thanks to Obama for pulling us out of the financial pit the Bush administration put us in, saving the auto industry and providing health care for millions.
Looking back at the data using the Dow Jones Industrial Average as a proxy, the average market growth rate over almost any multi-year period is about 7.2% - or 174% over the 8 years of the Obama admininstation. Looking at just the Obama years, the average growth rate has been 10.6% - or 224%. Looks like our Obama acolyte is not the sharpest knife in the investment drawer, since 150% is just slightly better than the return of 10-year treasury bonds.

Another interesting point: since the beginning of the Eisenhower administration (1953), the average growth rate for Democrat administrations is 9.6%; that for Republican administrations, 6.8%. So if the stock market is a proxy for wealth then Democrats, not Republicans, are the 'party of the rich'.
NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS FOR PROGRESSIVES: Don’t change. Stay the course.

AS THEY SOBER UP, the Democrat hangover is on the way.

I'm not convinced. I think they'll keep swilling the joy juice.
REVENGE OF THE NERDS: Whatever will we do without the cool kids in charge?

Succeed, perhaps?
THEY CAN'T HELP MAKING FOOLS OF THEMSELVES: Senate Democrats roll out 'divest or impeachment' bill.

Note the subtext of the post: if you are successful in business, you aren't qualified to hold political office.

KEEP DIVING, VOX: the deep end is down there somewhere.
MORE OF Heinlein's 'Crazy Years'.
FAA TO SANTA MONICA AIRPORT: Sorry, but you can't evict tenants just because they're 'politically incorrect'.
If the evictions go forward, the city plans to replace Atlantic and American Flyers with its own municipal aviation company and sell bio-fuel for jets and unleaded gas for propeller planes to reduce aircraft emissions. Federal law allows governments that operate airports to provide services themselves instead of relying on private companies.

The cease-and-desist order states that Santa Monica’s “unremitting effort” to remove critical aeronautical services and its “hostility” to the sale of leaded fuel still needed by many aircraft is “a clear contravention of law.”

The order notes that general aviation aircraft, business jets and turboprop aircraft cannot operate using the fuels approved by the City Council. It further states that the city has no desire to provide all the services offered by the companies, such as flight training.
Idiots.
ANOTHER VICTIM in the progressives' war on small business.
PITCHING IN to preserve aviation history.

A REPUBLICAN PARTY VICTORY: Pelosi clings to power.
ASCOT-WEARING, WINE-WIELDING, ANTI-TRUMP GRAFFITI LAWYER gets punished. Not enough. He should have been fired.
THE 404 ERROR MESSAGE: how the world-wide web came to be.
THE HIGHER EDUCATION ESTABLISHMENT: It's not about students; it's about us.
ANOTHER DIM DEMOCRAT attack on free speech.
OUR HOUSE every night. Still short by two after the recount.
THE CHILDREN are (still) having a tantrum.
IN PRAISE of crummy jobs.
WATCHING TELEVISION over the last month since the election, I think it's fair to say the Trump transition team's motto is 'Make Democrats Grate Again'.

FROM THE LEFT comes the argument that the Senate should reject [Cabinet] nominees who don’t favor the mission of the agencies they are to lead. To which I - and most of the commenters - respond: Nuts. We want to see the agencies put on a very short leash (Justice, for example) or preferably abolished outright (EPA, Education, among others).
WITH DONALD TRUMP a fresh wind is blowing through D.C.
IT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU PUBLISH FAKE NEWS: The credibility of Trump-bashing newspapers is gone for at least a generation.
MORE FODDER FOR THE RACE CARD: the White House invented an entirely new ethnic minority group. You can thank Ancestry and 23 and Me for the help....
DONALD TRUMP: the upside of 'animal spirits'.
IF DEMOCRATS are still confused as to why so many Americans have risen up to elect an unconventional outsider as President ... this picture explains why.

From my email.
FIGHT BACK AGAINST FAKE NEWS: avoid the mainstream media.
WHEN IT COMES TO WALLS, I'd prefer this one.

Or this one:

FAKE NEWS ALERT: Slate 'misinterprets' Kellyanne Conway; gets slapped down.

HARRY 'I Learned Nothing' REID, exits stage far left.

It's almost a pity he didn't stay in the Senate, because watching him, Nancy Pelosi, and Keith Ellison manning (personing?) the Democrat's steamshovel would be a joy to behold.
SCHADENFREUDE OVERLOAD: Senate Democrats lament fact Harry Reid’s leaving them powerless to stop Trump nominees.
'FAKE' NEWS: Is it really fake, or is it really real?
BELOW ZERO: Victor Davis Hanson assesses the Obama legacy.
YOU'RE DEAD? There's an app for that.
THE THREAT OF FAKE NEWS: two sources.
POWERLINE'S WEEK IN PICTURES Person of the Year edition is up. My favorite:

But Trump's wall is a close second. Go see them.
SO FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A LONG TIME I threw a few bucks into political contributions. The majority of my candidates won, and from Nov. 8th to date the return on those 'investments' has been about 7400%.

Not quite up to Hillary's 9,900% 'cattle futures' gain, but close.

I'm getting rather tired of businesses 'virtue signalling' in place of selling me things I need/want - especially those who will make a contribution to a charity of their choice with my money.

JEFF JACOBY: One China, one Taiwan.
SO PIERS MORGAN went back to England and picked up some common sense.

HEH: The Progressive-State Depression.

WONKBLOG: Under Trump, red states are finally going to be able to turn themselves into poor, unhealthy paradises.

No, it's not from The Onion; it's what city-bred blue state progressives really believe under their bubble.
ANOTHER ACADEMIC ABSURDITY:
... Such socio-spatial practices are the means through which men, women, chickens and cattle become privileged and/or othered within dominant gender–species hierarchical arrangements.
Huh?
KEITH ELLISON: I’ll resign my seat if I win the election for DNC chair.

It'll be a win-win for Minnesota and the Republicans. Minnesota will get a chance at a decent Congresscritter, and the Republicans will get a progressive activist at the controls of the Democrat's steamshovel.
I HOPE HE DOESN'T LIKE MILK: California Gov. Jerry Brown disses dairy farmers.

ASK YOURSELF: Mike Rowe schools a woman who didn't like his pro-American flag stance.
PUNCHING BACK: Senate Democrats signal retreat on James Mattis for Defense Secretary. They know President-elect Trump will make sure they're blamed for any interruption in the government if they try to block passage of the Mattis rider in the appropriation continuing resolution.
CONSTITUTION TO SANCTUARY CITIES: Fund it on your own nickel.

NEW YORK MAYOR Bill de Blasio requests $35m for Trump’s New York security costs. I suggest that he use some that money he plans on spending to maintain his city's sanctuary status.

IOWAHAWK takes on Buzzfeed's assault on Chip and Joanna Gaines of HGTV's Fixer Upper TV series. Twitter fans chip in (pun intended).
WAR ON HONESTY: FBI needs to investigate violent Democratic tantrums.
IN DEFENSE OF THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE:
There are 3,141 counties in the United States.

Trump won 3,084 of them. Clinton won 57.

There are 62 counties in New York State. Trump won 46 of them. Clinton won 16.

Clinton won the popular vote by approximately 1.5 million votes.

In the 5 counties that encompass NYC, (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Richmond & Queens) Clinton received well over 2 million more votes than Trump. (Clinton only won 4 of these counties; Trump won Richmond.)

Therefore these 5 counties alone more than accounted for Clinton winning the popular vote of the entire country.

These 5 counties comprise 319 square miles. The United States is comprised of 3, 797,000 square miles.

When you have a country that encompasses almost 4 million square miles of territory, it would be ludicrous to even suggest that the vote of those who inhabit a mere 319 square miles should dictate the outcome of a national election.

Large, densely populated Democrat cities (NYC, Chicago, LA, etc.) don’t and shouldn’t speak for the rest of our country.
Sorry, but we get a vote, too.

From my email. I can't vouch for the accuracy of the numbers, but they are consistent with county-by-county electoral maps I've seen online.
HEH. Fortunately, children grow up. Unfortunately, socialists don't.

ACADEMIC ABSURDITY of the week. It uses our alphabet, but I don't think it's English....

HMMM: I also missed last week's "Week in Pictures" from Powerline, with my favorite below:

There are others as good. Go see them.
AMMO GRRRLL RUBS IT IN: "If a celebrity threatens to leave, and nobody cares, is she still a celebrity?"

And in case you missed it (as I did), here's last week's contribution.
PROGRESSIVES have an over-shaming problem.
Writing at the Atlantic, Conor Friedersdorf has an interesting piece today titled “Too much stigma, not enough persuasion,” which points to a problem problem Democrats seem to have developed on social media, i.e. an eagerness to shame and humiliate anyone who fails to be sufficiently in line with their own understanding of a given social issue. The problem isn’t disagreement, it’s the immediate resort to public ridicule at the slightest provocation.
The solution to this 'progressive' bullying is an immediate "You mistake me for someone who gives a shit what you think."
JEFF JACOBY: more eminent domain injustice.
At best, eminent domain is an unfortunate necessity — a last resort when land is needed for a public purpose, such as building a new school or a highway. But when government takes private property in order to benefit a private developer, or when it threatens to do so, it abuses its power and betrays the citizens it is supposed to represent.
Increasing tax base is not a public use.
ILLEGAL VOTING and what to do about it.

Maybe in a Trump administration....

Another view from the 'reality' world....
NASA REALIZES SLS and Orion are too expensive, and opens the door to competitors.

Good for both NASA and commercial space, I think. NASA research and technology development has made manned space affordable for commercial development and business has the resources to do it. They can and should, without government interference. NASA can then go back to its core competence, aerospace research and technology development.
FROM BULLY TO VICTIM: Obama plays the blame game.
A THOUGHT FOR DEMOCRATS: You are still crying wolf.

The author is not a Trump admirer, but he's accurately described the Democrats' problem. My advice to Democrats: keep digging; you'll get to China eventually....
