JEFF JACOBY: Scrap the conventions. I'll grant that they should be smaller and shorter. But scrap an American tradition? No way.
DID ANN ROMNEY snub Vogue magazine? I would ask why would she want to appear in a magazine whose sole appeal is to snobs?
IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE interpreting the Romney/Ryan 'dog whistles', Deroy Murdock can help.
NANOWIRE MESH LINKS CELLS AND ELECTRONICS: 3-D nanowire scaffolds let researchers grow tissue around transistors: "The most immediate application of the work ... may be a new type of sensor system for in vitro testing of new drugs. But further down the road the research may lead to artificial eyes, implantable chips to control prosthetic limbs, and other devices that can communicate between electronics and living cells."
SUNDAY REFLECTION: The importance of showing up.
DON'T GIVE CLIMATE CHANGE HERETICS AN EASY RIDE. Read the article first, then consider this comment:
Jay Griffiths was born in Manchester and studied English Literature at Oxford University.

When the pheasant expert proffered his climate-heretic views in a hugely popular book, ...

Am I the only one to see the irony here?
Climate change enthusiasts rarely have a scientific background either, but it doesn't stop them.
COMMENT OF THE WEEK: "CurrentTV ... is the most clever cover evah for the federal witness protection program...."
TO DEMOCRATS: How is it healthier to be unemployed? Democrats are always willing to address the symptoms (especially if they require taxpayer money), but never the problem.
DEMOCRAT HYPOCRISY knows no bounds: "Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., accused Mitt Romney of 'hypocrisy' for visiting victims of Hurricane Isaac, saying that Romney would ignore them if elected president."

Never mind that the same day Romney went to Louisana, President Obama made a campaign stop at Fort Bliss, Texas (and had to promptly schedule a 'concern stop' for Louisana the following week).

The short video clip I saw of Romney had him asking some very intelligent questions about the sources of the flooding, which the know-nothings at CBS News promptly derided.
DISPOSABLE ELECTRONICS: Cellphones and cameras don’t ripen, like bananas, on the way to the store. But given their short 'shelf life', perhaps they should.
DEMOCRATS: the deficit's not a bug, it's a feature.

THE JUPITER-BOUND JUNO SPACECRAFT, which is about 300 million miles from earth, fired its main engine for just short of 30 minutes in the first of two crucial maneuvers intended to bring it toward Earth for a momentum-gathering fly-by. Juno is scheduled to arrive in 2016 for a year-long study of the planet.
